What if The Purge, was real?
Once a year, a night. All crime is legal for 12 hours.

What would you do?
Stay in doors?
Or, be an emotionless killer?

What if you just immediately kill them all right when the purge starts, instead of killing them before the purge?
They would be safely home, locked in their personal forts.

But notice how happy and calm everyone is before the Purge in the movies. It is just a safe, normal day for them. Especially in the first move. They almost forget the purge is starting, until their alarms go off.

Which is the big weakness of the Purge. Well.. not THE big weakness. One of them. Crime is legal. If I comit a crime before the Purge, I am legally allowed to destroy the evidence, kill the witnesses, and if need be scorch the very earth to make the crime disappear. Next day, how does one prove a crime happened if everything is bullet holes and rubble. I shot the guy that did it, and acquired everything my neighbors owned, because, hey, Purge.

The 364 remaining days of the year would be spent on the back catalogue of stuff done from the last Purge. Then it happens again.
Clever...

No. Messed right the hell up. Which is kind of the point of the series.

Although the second movie REALLY does make a good Punisher side movie. No kidding. You can see who Frank Castle/The Punisher is the instant he rolls up. Largely because he is bringing Punishment to the criminals currently beyond the law. Watch it as a dark Marvel movie, and it gets SO much more entertaining.

I meant the scenario you said was clever.

The purge is real, just put your finger in back of your throat and make yourself puke.

I would hide out in a store with all the stuff I wanted to steal in a buggy, and as soon as the Purge started I would dash back to my house asap

To be fair, you don't even need so complex a reasoning to identify the entire concept is never going to be practicable. I really doubt anyone (wow, outside of Steam discussion baords, perhaps) could really conceive such a possibility would ever be realised-

What's presented in media is a limited perspective of token examples in a 'what if' scenario - there are ar more complex considerations that are highly relevant and crucially impacting which are never even mentioned nor hinted at - ignored entirely or the sake of both an exciting sotory driven production with saleable value, and to explore the limted vision of the writers' interest.

It's almost like something I read once concerning the old fashioned zombie movies and how the elements of how progression from the first person being bitten/reainimated or whatever to the state of the entire country being some wilderness with pockets of civilisation held in fortresses or lone handfuls of stragglers (usually protagonists) left outside : Given those were the days when zombies were meandering slowpokes wiith no cognitive higher functions etc, it's all conveniently swept under the carpet how things actually impossibly could escalate - So it's ignored entirely because other wise, there just wouldn't actually be any movie/story to tell.

So I feel debating about what "would happen" or "what people would really do" is somewhat mootgiven that such actions necessarily depend on a number of strong factors that are simply non-existent and any hint of their influence glossily ignored.

Like how would you die?
Just get caught out on a run and stabbed?
Hiding in your house when a guy breaks in and after an honourable fight you fall?
Commit suicide?
