Portal or Half Life 2?

Well, I have a 2 bucks to spare and the Steam Sale ends tomorrow. Anyone know whether I should buy Portal 1 or Half Life 2? I'm thinking Portal because I think I should buy Half Life 1 before buying Half Life 2? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks guys! :D

I started with HL2 and its perfectly fine, the story isn't very good. It's basically just an alien invasion. Get Half Life 2 though because Portal is very short. Half Life 2 is better in my opinion.

Both are great games. Get Half Life, Portal 1 is only 2-3 hours long max. Half Life is much longer.

You would have more fun with Half-Life 2; better mechanics, visuals, refined story. If you like it get HL1.

Portal is my choice, because it was more innovative. Hl2 as far as I can tell is just another horror/thriller shooter.
