What happens if you eat poison ivy?

I have heard it makes you immune to it, but that sounds like a load of bullcrap, does anyone know what really happens?

You will probably suffocate. A rash will develop inside your throat and lungs, causing extreme pain and possibly fatal respiratory difficulty. In most cases, it would cause death depending on allergic reaction. Quite a painful and prolonged way to die (reaction can last 1-4 weeks), however some people have even attempted to smoke it - which is worst. A few birds and animals are immune, but most aren't including humans. It's known as "Toxicodendron radicans" (aka Posion Ivy) for a reason.

There actually looks to have been some research on desensitization therapy, here's[www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] one on guinea pigs, but that'd be taking measured doses of urushiol under medical supervision, not just eating a poison ivy salad.

Eating different poison without dying will help your body produce anti-bodies and you will be immune to the same poison

It will do to your insides the same thing it does to your outsides. There are cases of this happening because of people believing you can eat it to gain immunity.

That's not how poison, antibodies, or immunity work. Most of the time, taking small amounts of poison over a long period of time just gives you a chronic disease rather than an acute case of death.
