This is kind of a weird topic but why are South Koreans so obsessed with getting this cosmetic surgery to get the big Anime eyes? Makes no sense to me and it looks so unnatural. Mostly females get it however when men get it done it just looks super creepy.

I tend not to mind when dumb people wear something or do something to their body to make them easily identifiable. It keeps me from needing to guess.

I don't think it's "Anime eyes" they are going for.... but "Western eyes"...

But then again.. when does any cosmetic surgery unless it's for repair or health reason makes sense? Vanity is a strange thing.....

also they're really more going for big american eyes.

The whole "big eyes, slim figure, ultra pale skin" look is part of a relatively new beauty trend.
It's a big thing in China too.

Getting eyes "rounded" was a thing in Japan for a while. While my daughter was still living there she had sent me pics of a couple of her friends that had it done and it looked,,, wrong. Anime eyes weren't what they wanted, they believed having narrow eyes meant you were trying to be deceitful and rounder eyes made you look more honest. At least that's what she told me.

Difference in cultures.
V-line shaped face, pale skin, large eyes is what's considered beautiful in E. Asia.
V-line shaped because square jaws are associated with peasants and apparently gives off a more "aggressive" look.
Pale skin because farmers are associated with dark skin.
Large eyes because Asians still look up to Westerners.

I used to work at an Eye Surgical Center in the post-op department. One of the main surgeries we'd get is Blepharoplasty although it was older folk of a variety of races that got it done. It's considered a plastic surgery and can make a person look younger, but it also gives people improved vision. On most of the patients that I saw they had about 30% increased vision after the surgery.

No idea why they're having it done in SKorea especially if it's younger people.
