However, it's not a fight as such...
Pennywise isn't even a clown as some might assume. It's a creature from outer space which feeds off the emotion 'fear'. Therefore it targets children mostly, as they tend to have more of it, focusing on their fears and phobias.
Hense in the book/movie, Bill Denbrough is sick in his bedroom, which has clowns on the wallpaper. His younger brother Georgie, is afraid of him dying from being sick and lowkey afraid of clowns due to that relationship. He plays with a paper boat, floating off down the sewer and meets Pennywise. Being the first victim of the group to be feed upon due to his fear. The rest of the group are then afraid of the clown for killing Georgie, etc. However, it's also a spider form, pedo, etc... it takes on many forms which it assumes can scare someone into fearing it.
You might find Pennywise doesn't even attack and kill the target, during this stage of getting them to fear it first.
