I don't care about most new movies and then i spot this and i'm like "Holy crap yes! Doom!"
Why does it look like a made for TV movie? Why is the hero a skinny girl? Why are there regular looking zombies?

Get some big unit like Dave Bautista to play Doom guy, give it practical effects and make it an 18 rated movie so there's fun gore.

Bcoz this is purely made as a TV movie. Universal clearly has no idea how to make and what to do with DOOM. I mean, this literally made the first DOOM film looked like a masterpiece.

It looks that way because it was made by the direct to video studio for Universal. Plus the director/writer for the movie, Tony Giglio, hasn't done much when it comes to making movies. Just look at his imdb page to see what I mean: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0317638/?ref_=tt_ov_dr

This is Giglio's 8th directed movie, and his 12th screenplay. So not a lot of confidence considering how long he has been around the movie industry. Plus looking at the track record for those movies they all ended up being mediocre at best.
