Lyman discovered Garfielf's lasaga machine that got powered from Audie, then Garfielf replaced Audie with Lyman, Lyman is now the source of a billions lasaga and the stupid mutt is throw into orbit

He was not needed anymore, since Garfield got smart enough to have conversations with Jon directly.

Lyman was written out of Garfield because Jim Davis did not think he was really needed. Lyman is explained in this interview.
