Why are zombies never called zombies in videogames/ movies?
Like the title says, I always aks me why people always never call zombies zombies in books, movies or games. They always have other names like Walkers, Biters, Ghouls or Zeds, but never zombies and I'm curious to know why it is that way. I mean are there no zombie movies in the Walking Dead universe or did no one thought of a game where dead people come back to live in George Romero's movies? The only two franchises I know where people really say zombies are Resident Evil and Dead Rising.

They're trying to be somewhat creative by not using the Z word.

Firstly, Zeds means Zombies.
Secondly, "Zombies" is never used because they don't want the characters acting like they know what zombies are, so they never say zombies.

(Example: Resident Evil 2 (The Game))

Is that why that one movie was called "World War Z"?

They said the word zombie in World War Z more than once.

No idea I didn't see that movie.

Zombie fiction does not seem to exist in most zombie films, so they would have to invent their own terms for them, even if they come across as pretentious wank: "shadows", "walkers", "unliving".

Maybe the developers presume most people already know what a zombie is?

This I suspect is the real reason.

Well in any zombie movie/game/TV show you never see the characters reference any other zombie movie/game/show. Why is that? Because there are none. To them it's a whole new concept that no-one has ever seen before, and thus the term 'zombie' probably doesn't even exist.

it sounds cheezy when people say "zombies" :tank:

Zombies in Left 4 Dead aren't zombies.
Just wanted to point that out.

But you don't understand.
The zombies are the zombies, yet they are not...
But they really are.

Or are they...?

From a scientists view, they are infected people.
