Why do people say "good time waster" when it comes to games that they like?
What exactly does it mean and how is it a good thing?

It's good at making your time fly away. It's a fun thing to do that isn't productive. That's basically what it means.
All video games are essentially time-wasters, but some are better than others at "wasting" your time.
That it's a good game to play when you have nothing to do.

Life is just a waste of time.

You have to make meaning in your life to make it worthwhile to you.

If that includes playing videogames, so be it, and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

I wonder if he means he should just hurry up and end it all, since time alive is a "waste"?

Yes.
Skyrim wasted most of my time. I remember walking 15 minutes to get to the nearest city when I was carrying too much, so I could sell the things I was carrying.
I don't know, you guys. It's the whole "wasting" part that I don't get. If you enjoy something, how is it a waste?

It's pretty much a figure of speech for "addictive game"

Because, as chibilibi said, it's unproductive time. You aren't really getting any important skills out of it, unless you are a professional gamer.

Well, I would have to disagree with that. There are plenty of studies that show what sort of skills that can be produced from gaming. Better problem-solving skills, faster reflexes, etc. But of course, that depends on how often you play video games.

I agree with you. I used to play First Person Shooters. Now I fly jets for a living.

Small increase in skills that aren't really that important, very few of use are going to be surgeons or bomb disposal specialists where that little bit extra of deterixty or finess is really going to make much of a difference. If you want useful, brush up on maths, read more books and learn new languages.
