So can someone explain the star craft mythos?

so ive been playing starcraft 2 for a bit. finished wings of liberty and I enjoyed it so I got heart of the swarm. I admit im no master tactician (I like the siege tanks, they have big guns that go BOOM) and I never liked playing online. Once i tried it and i got crushed by some OG South Korean kid. Anyways i enjoyed the story of Wings of liberty (redneck space marine rescues girlfriend from evil hairdo) and liked it so much i got started on Heart of Swarm. It was all well and good as i understood the basics: Queen of Blades : Space Hitler, Terran: space rednecks, Protoss: weird zealot psyics, Zerg: Cybermen if they were organic and wanted to piss in Darwin's grave. Then while playing HoS I ran into this russian guy and though, well maybe he just comes from a russian ship that crash landed, same goes for the Japanese Battlecrusier captain and the Scottish Hercules captain. Then they mentioned that he was born on earth and I realised that I had no clue what was going on. I thought that all the terrans were rednecks becuase they were on a ship that was full of rednecks when it crash landed, save for a few pockets of japanese, russian, and scottish. So here are my questions
1. how involed are the people in earth in the Terran/ Zerg/ Protoss conflict
2. who is that russian guy?
3. who are the xel'naga
4. If terrans have access to nuclear missles why don't they just nuke zerg from afar without having to deal with them up close?
5. why do the Protoss have a fork up their collective ass?
6. what was the confederacy?
7. If Protoss have the power to teleport stuff why don't they just teleport all the zerg into a sun or a black hole, or downtown detroit in the early 2000s?
8. why does kerrigan have to go back to being the queen of blades to stop minsk? I mean Raynor was doing a pretty good job kicking his ass with just a terran army.
9. Why is the domminion so incompent I mean first they don't get Kate Lockwell fired/encarcerated/killed when she is clearly screwing up Minsk's propoganda? Also why doesn't anyone check the cockpit of the Odin to make sure that some armed criminal isn't inside when they bring it into that city?
10. If you choose to go to char before the zerg homeworld in heart of swarm how does the story differ?
