Any good free RTS games on Steam?

Pretty much what the title says. Any games like SC2, C&C, etc? I know those aren't similar but I'm looking for something of that caliber. It seems MMOs, FPS, and hybrids all have their free counterparts. So where are the good free RTS?

On steam? None that I can really think of that are all that good.
Outside of steam there are quite a few that are free, including that remake of the Red Alert series and various mods for other games.
Theres also Starcraft 2 starter edition, which has quite alot of features for a starter edition.

Come to think of it, the above-mentioned genres (MMO & FPS games in particular) have always had many F2P versions (non-Steam).

I can't really think of any free RTS games to begin with.

I can think of quite a few, but most are
A) Very Old
B) Fan made remakes
C) Complete ♥♥♥♥
or D) Mods of different games(Theres a RTS mod for Half life 2 even)

What ever happened to End Of Nations by Petroglyph? That game fell off the face of the earth, but that is supposed to be a Free2Play RTS/Moba Hybrid and was looking to play alot like World in Conflict(One of the best RTSs of all time IMO).

Thats all I can think of coming out.
Sins of a Dark age was originally an RTS Moba Hybrid, but basically changed to being a pure Moba now.

So yeah, really not much. What have you played so far OP? maybe I can find something free to recomend.

As far as free goes, Age of Empires Online is the only one I've found that I've wanted to invest more than a couple hours in. I've always loved the Command and Conquer and LotR: Battle for Middle Earth series. Although, I doubt anything free will come close to that. I'm just looking for something to suffice since I can't afford anything right now.

All the other free RTS I've tried look like a Win95 game or something - I'd really like something fairly up-to-date.

The original starcraft is free on the blizzard website. Just find it on the starcraft page.

Not on Steam, buy 0 AD is pretty decent if you were an AOE fan.
