Nascar is a MOTORSPORT,videogames are ESPORTS.
I agree with you that we should not mix up games with money. Most of todays ''sports'' like football used to be just innocent games between friends and neighbors, today football is just business, its also a tool to control humans (in south america and europe football is like a religion).I like playing football too but i wouldnt imagine myself playing for money, how would i enjoy playing working for all this corrupted capitalistic business model?Thats why i dont support mixing videogames with money, its ok for esports to exist but without money involved, the players should play because they like doing this and competitions are also good for players who want to see their limits.
If the winners get high payouts, it's a sport to me.
Re-read the description. There are 4 elements defining a sport in that definition:
1. Physical Exertion
2. Skill
3. Individual or Teams
4. Competion
Video games meet 2, 3 and 4, but not 1.
You're forgetting that it must also be done for one, or others' entertainment.
Motorsports, Javelining, things like that? They may LOOK like they don't require Physical Exertion, but the fact is it's a very physical thing.
Things like Dancing and Skating may also seem weightless, but they're Tiring and, infact, ARE often competitive. They all are sports of some flavor or another.
"E-Sports", though, if we're talking things like Starcraft or some shooter.... it isn't a real sport. Clicking and pressing keys on a Keyboard isn't a sport, and as someone said earlier in the thread, It's mostly spam clicks.
Now, if we can somehow make one of those kinect sports things and do it on some World-wide basis, competitively, between hundreds of people, then it would go on to be a true sports as it would meet the Parameters.
BUT, This hasn't happened yet. Until someone can actually do something like that, Video Games -aren't- sports.
''Pro gamers'' shouldnt even exist, just like football professional players shouldnt exist either. They arent productive and they dont offer anything to our society so they shouldnt get paid at all.The only reason they get paid is because of the sponsors and marketing, its capitalism all over it,plain disgusting.
Entertainment for me means doing something actually myself.Entertainment isnt for me watching others doing stuff.I enjoy playing football & videogames but i m not gonna watch others play, plain and simple.
Then why are you commenting?
This thread doesn't concern you becuase you aren't entertainment-y. If you do it alone, Then why should you even care to debate?

THANK YOU For saying that!
