No dip, sherlock. But the question is still as relevant as ever. It's an evergreen post. The OP asked where the connection was between Valve and Nintendo. I responded. I ignored the 2014 parts of the post (like the question of what Valve should make next). Instead, I responded to the portion that's still relevant in 2022. So, go back under you bridge, troll.
Lol, troll!
It does concern me when I see people who have nothing better to do than troll.
I mean seriously, there are books to read, symphonies to listen to, art galleries to visit, nature to experience, video games to play, and intellectual discussion to be had (which is what I was doing... having an intellectual discussion).
And then there are people who post 2 0 1 4.
Terrifying!
No wonder our world has the problems it does.
I hope that some of you who are wasting the time to comment on a thread that you think is a waste of time will actually.... try to do something more with your life. I'm not trying to be a jerk. I'm being serious.
If you don't understand this point, then maybe you could try to learn more. I'm being deadly serious. Plato and Aristotle can be read online... for free.
Here's a link to Plato's Euthyphro. http://classics.mit.edu/Plato/euthyfro.html
Why am I giving you all this link? Because you clearly don't have anything worthwhile to do with your time (you're commenting on a post that you think is a waste of time... thereby wasting your own time). So, I'm showing you something you could be doing with your time. You could literally be reading one of the greatest thinkers ever.
If you simply do not understand what I am saying, then you need to learn more stuff! You can literally read Plato and Aristotle and other great thinkers for free, online! Go read!!!
Just trying to help, man. I stumbled across this post, while googling Newell's three favorite games. He had mentioned them in the past, and I had forgotten what they were. So, I searched it. And I arrived here.
There is therefore a reasonable probability that other future persons will stumble across this post, as well. Therefore, it is not a waste of time for me to have posted my response about Nintendo and Valve's commonalities.
And then, tons of people waste their own time to tell me the date of the original post... as if I didn't know that.
Just because the post was from 2014 doesn't mean that people from 2022 won't see it.
We are all evidence of this.
Therefore, it was highly rational for me to post what I did, and it was highly irrational for others to waste their time to tell me the date.
As such, I decided to do my part in showing these people (and this includes you) that there are better things to do with your life than commenting on some post that you think it's absurd to be commenting on.
This is definitely worth my time... because if I can reach one of you, then I will have helped the world become a better place.
To tell me that my post is worthless is to waste precious seconds off of your life. These are seconds that you could be spending to better yourself, rather than wasting time on the internet on your smartphone.
You could be doing something.
You could be reading Plato.
You could be changing your life and the lives of others.
I hope you realize this, before it is too late and you have wasted the better part of your life.
Lol!
And if you are actually being serious (I assumed you were joking), well... I disagree, but you're making a fair point!
It doesn't have to be reading Plato. We can all do anything to improve our lives and others'.
But I will say this... there are many boring things in life that stop being boring once you do them enough. Hard things also stop being hard when you do them a lot. Imo.
Nope, I don't waste my time on that! And I suggest that you stop wasting your time here! Do something with your life!
I'm going to leave this discussion for about 24 hours. Why? Because I need to accomplish things. Achieve things. Become a better human. I suggest you do the same!!! Good luck!
I have read that both Nintendo developers (I really like many Nintendo games, including Super Mario 64) and Hiroiko Araki (author of JoJo, a manga that I really like a lot) are very big fans of "western" movies (and I mean movies movies with cow boys in old west setting, not just movies made in the west), and I absolutely hate those movies, but I really like what they make... well not exactly everything but most of the things they make.
It is just an example but I noticed that often the world... well, I mean, people... and authors, work that way.
Just because one person do something it does not necessarily represent what they like to consume.
I have also read that Horoiko Araki likes horror movies but only the ones that look realistic and try to give the audience a realistic feeling (things like Walking Dead, with viruses and zombies instead of ghosts, curses and supernatural monsters) while one of the things I like the most in his stories are the supernatural things, the most wild fantasies that he come up with...
Just another example, well, people often work this way as I said. Most fans probably have a very wrong and distorted idea of what their favourite authors like because often what they do is very different.
Meanwhile, Nintendo has been milking the same IP, characters, and genres for forty years.
If you're seriously asking what Valve should do, it is something radical and unexpected. They should be the anti-Nintendo. Make a genre no one would expect from them. Not sure what's left besides sports games, racing, or the detective genre.
