Are you Herbert from Family Guy?

The general experience is a bad one. Or maybe the bad ones just stand out so much more. Mic spamming, running off along, kill whoring, ordering experienced players around, talking about how MLG they are, insulting other players when they lose, refusing to work with the team, insulting the other players with the most base and crude of insults when everything doesn't go their way, or when they start getting ignored. Lets call it a few bad apples spoil the bunch.
My guess is 12 got picked collectively because it is the year before they can be called teenagers. I always give new players a chance, but if I see the signs, now days either I am out, or I boot them. I am in game to have fun, not be stressed out by screaming children.
It is intended to belittle based on age in such a way as to be insulting to the recipient, whlst in many cases, use of other terms may be somewhat hypocritical or senseless:
1) Use of the word "Child" or "Kid" is commonly affected, but loses potency given teenagers under 18 may also be such.
2) "Teenager" may not necessarily be interpreted insultingly, given tha most people 20 or over are matured to not let such pettiness bother them so much anyway, and a 16 year old calling a 14 year old "teenager" lacks much real weight
3) The Steam installation license agreement, as well as many legal conisderations for online service generally distinguish responsibility levels at the age of 13 (especially where the legistlation in scertain countries supports the distiction within minors) Tehrefore, there is implied shouldn't even be on the internet" to the perjoritive of the comment.
4) It's less satirically exaggerated than "what are you, a 3 year old?" and therefore, quite possible that a "bad player" or "prepubescent-voiced" player may reasonably be considered as appropximately 12 years old and therefore the implied accusation of being a bad player playing like a "12 year old" is less avoidable and supported by the available evidence, which undermines (a young person's) attmempts at 'comeback'.
long story short 8-12 year olds are annoying as ♥♥♥♥ but 12 is a good number
Take the 9 year old victim who gets majorly bullied (which Leafy actually started).
Most miss his light hearted way of coping and explaining himself right before the outcry...

So as the abuse repeats (Leafy even said his parents hate his guts - no joke), therefore the kid reacts accordingly with a huge outburst 'Cyberbully channel are cancer', latching out at all of them. Which is quite out there.
A bully can feed off this and mock the reaction more, to the point the kid had to cancel a public event. The bully attempts to create a mob mentality which others will join in and isolates the victim - so they shift focus on their own problems in life and become a leader as such which others mindlessly follow. Some people with no empathy towards others consider this entertainment, as they see a reaction but not the reasons behind it.

There's also an odd human behavior...
Say everyone gets into an elevator. It's natural to face the door, it's just what we do. However, say a group is already in their facing the back wall. Another person comes in and faces the back wall. Reinforce this enough, almost all people in that elevator will turn around and mindlessly face the back wall without reasonizing why. It's just to fit in and be part of the larger group. To be accepted themselves. This is why some kids will get bullied and others will join in to bully that kid as well, just due to the mob mentality of bullying the kid is considered the norm as others are doing it. There's only a select few people which stand against this behavior and don't blindly follow authority or leadership.
People don't actually hate Jacob Sartorius due to his music, etc - they could just ignore that. They hate because of a mob mentality of hate created. They are just sheep mindlessly following each others behavior as it's the norm to hate upon him, even if they know nothing about the victim themselves. You find weaker minded people doing this all the time, as it's the easiest path of acceptances for themselves.
Likewise, have you never heard those kids claiming to be older than they are? From what I've found, they're usually between seven and nine years old, but they claim to be 12 because they think people will like them more if they are older. However, they'd better not say they are a teen, because the voice will give it away and they'd be subject to a new kind of ridicule.
Is this all kids? Is this even representative of 12-year-olds? Of course not, but people know the stereotype because it occurs so often, and when some kid starts acting like a stereotypical squeaker, they get called out on it, as most do not have the patience for them.
Xbox exists for a reason you know?
