Ok we'll see then. I'll check it out. Thanks a lot! I'll keep you all updated on what I'm enjoying and what isn't for me. By the way, so far I am really enjoying Death Parade a lot
I just heard that in passing listening to a podcast. What's all the hype about? What's this about?
I appreciate DBZ for what it is but it is definetely not for me. Thanks for the suggestion though!
So for those who aren't aware, Death Parade is set in this in between world where people who die come to play a game that will decide whether their soul will be sent to be reincarnated which is a good place or will be sent to the void which is a bad place. The anime follows the people who work in this world (which is basically a hotel) and this one young woman who doesn't know why she's working there.
Death Parade was really, really, good! It was as creepy as it was heartbreaking. I loved that we met new characters almost every episode and I LOVED (and downloaded) the ending theme because its beautiful. The main characters and the people who came to play the game were interesting but the recurring side characters were under developed and not terribly neccesary. It struck a perfect balance between dark and melancholy. Death Parade was 12 episodes which I've come to realize I love in an anime, short and sweet. This was such a gem that I found by chance. I don't think anyone suggested that to me. I highly recommend this if you're feeling a little bit sad.
Next up: Gangsta.

Wow this is really old school. I might actually enjoy it. This reminds me of the anime I used to watch as a kid. Thanks a lot and keep those suggestions coming even if they're things you think are ok or even talk about anime you DON'T like.
So I just finished Gangsta and I really enjoyed it. Gangsta is about these two guys who are sort of mercenaries for hire who are caught in a war on Twilights who are considered to be these almost super human, blood thirsty psychopaths. That the plot at in it's most barebones terms but the anime is SOOOO much deeper than that.
Gangsta's strength as an anime is it's interpersonal relationships. The forming and breaking of bonds between these outwardly tough characters is beautiful and far more interesting than it's action sequences. There's lots of stories going on here as well. There's the broad storyline of the Twilights versus the Normals which isn't anything new. By the way, there is nothing supernatural about this anime which I love. The Twilights are just really strong and really fast. I can't say too much about the characters because of spoilers but each one has a seperate life to them that is really interesting but my aboslute favorite parts of the anime were the flashback sequences where you get to see the origin story of the main two characters.
I began to lose interest around episode 10 when we suddenly got involved in the lives of characters who had never been introduced before or ones we'd barely spent time with. I'd become so attached to the main three that I easily zoned out when anyone else was on screen. I feel this this did what most animes do which is suddenly try to build an ensamble but it was too late for me and I found myself glazing over the final 2 episodes. I'm also not sure if it's supposed to have another season or not because the show ended very abruplty. I can't imagine we were supposed to leave it there however the way the story was going I'm sure that season 2 would not be something I'm totally invested in except to discover the fate of Alex, Warrick and Nick (who is now my husbando).
All in all I enjoyed most of the 12 episodes I saw and I give this a light recommendation for anyone looking for a cool dude, realistic action anime to breeze through.
