The moment where gamers got up and started walking towards the glory of VR, BCI, and BEYOND
The great transition to NFTs and VR tech most peoples aren't interrested in. If only studios could be focused on making good games instead.
I can't wait till 2023 comes out, the graphics are going to be so realistic.
I already pre-purchased it.
introduction of loot boxes and pay2win, always online to play games, DRM and bad anti cheat software clogging and slowing down the games, copy and paste games thrown out every year with slight changes priced at AAA prices (looking at you FIFA), list goes on.
This era is not good for gaming and won't be looked back on with any positivity.
It's not just a coincidence that games like GTA: SA, Quake III Arena, and other ones alike are praised so much.
One might argue that they were still trying out new stuff and got lucky, but if that's the case, then why're the developers nowadays so fixated on the pay to win lootboxes, tons of microtransactions in-game? There's literally no reason to have them in videogames, besides greed, is there?
Well, a valid point would be that people don't have time to play videogames, so they pay with their money to get the progress they'd have otherwise gotten playing the game, if they were to have the necessary time to play them; But in such cases, why'd you go outta your way and pay for the game or the game's license to play it, if you don't have the time to play it in the first place?
Sounds like a huge contradictory move without considering the consequences of your actions.
Either way, the current videogames are usually overpriced, poorly optimized, and too focused on microtransactions. That's what needs to go; If that doesn't happen, then people won't wanna think about those times with a positive attitude.
So, my answer would be, that this era will be seen as the era when games took a sudden J-turn into worse..
At the end of the day, people may not even wanna remember those times in the first place, if they're so full of negatives in comparison to their previous precedents.
I will definitely see those times as the times of CS title's reborn, due to Valorant getting into the highlights.
I guess, I'm still waiting for Modern Warfare 2's remaster.. Which is, without a doubt, unfortunately, gonna be overpriced, but clearly worth the money unless they announce and implement a major balancement adjustments.
If that doesn't happen, I'll happily pay over ~100€ just for the sake of playing the same game once again.. But this time, with the necessary knowledges to dominate most matches.
~ Previously, up to 2016; GTA: SA, Minecraft, Modern Warfare 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Quake III Arena;
~ From Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to Valorant, to visual novels;
~ And, then from Valorant and visual novels to Modern Warfare 2 remaster (if I will still be gaming to that day).
First Xbox, then Playstation. In a few years we might have a lot more game subscription service.
Theres a new level of games being made but most of the best games are not public because of price and specs. But the technology in PCs is rapidly increasing along with SSDs being more utilized. I think soon enough we will have massive games running on 1T RAM and programmed without any client side data to make cheats a thing of history.
I see people owning just a few massive games over experimenting with alot of indie games or having to see which games actually work. I see less family friendly safe games where you can not die. I see more open PvP and permadeath which will likely cause people to be alot more polite. Basically I see an evolution of companies that are more focused on what makes a game good rather than having such a commerce geared mentalilty.
I think we are still babies in the gaming universe and about to realize we havnt even started gaming yet. And that golden age is soon.
