You can only know so much about your supposed online 'friends'. Sure the internet is a nice place to find people with similar interests, but how many of them would actually help you irl in your time of need? How many of them do you know of their true name? Their birthdays? Their family? Their jobs? Would you be willing to loan money to your online friends?
Also, people can display themselves however they want online. I could be a murderous cannibal clown, but to users on Steam I'm just Nargo, some dude who likes video games.
P.S. I have spent money on online friends.
Well, Back in the good old days, it wasn't,
Care for old Studio to tell a tale? It is a good one, verifiable on line and really pretty neat.
I was eventuall invited into the The Black Tower group. We rped for close to a year, and then, after the loss of our founders became The Dark Ash'Amen Return. And we were all friends. I mean real friends. If we had never met someone in the group on a trip, we know someone that knew someone. WE wrote books of daily rp, we had nightly RP... WE were as tight as friends could be, spread over the country.
I Was very social with one, for a while. She was, conflicted on her relationship at the time... she was good people, but she needed more than I could give at the time... BUT there were two friends I Developed over the years that I clung to. When I decided to move on my life in the South and move on, they both called me out to Michigan. AFTER months of hinting, I finally accepted.
THEY didn't share a few issues, like they were both living with someone... Which I remedied by immediately having a job and and covering all the bills with my work. IT was Michigan.Dude was pay 400 a month for a 2 bedroom, and I Coul pay it and all his bill in a week.
I MEt the girl who had been harping on my 3 post rps for months. BUT she was shy, and it took two day to get her to walk up and say hi. And I though she was the cutest girl ever.
4 months later, WE Are laying on the couch together, both happy and content, I rolled over her, and said "Spend the rest of our live this content?" She looked at me for a while to see if I Was joking and said yes.
And then, 12 hours later, A Guy who wanted her, kicked in the front door and was screaming at me. THIS was after months of him turning him down, saying we are friends. HE Was actually napping on the couch when I ask her.... HE said he was coming over to ask a question.
THE door blasts open...AND I Mean it goes from open to hole in the wall from door knob... And he is screaming how I stole her from him and he wants to fight... We are with future wife, out downstairs besty Amanda, and no one else... And the Instant he comes through the door I am , how do I say this minus internet smack... uh... I am in the center of the room, ready to rip into this chump. Amanda, our beloved neighbor puts me in a sleeper hold. SHE was a swimmer in school. Strong arms. The Future wife take dude outside, and talks him down, while I literally pace the carpet, wanting to rip into him/
HEy-oh!
Two weeks later I Made her charge her emergency cell phone, and I Called her dad, and ask for her hand in marriage. Because we fit together so well. ANything I didn't know, she did, we backed each other instantly, WE fell into each others rhythm with no thought at all.
Six months after we met, we were engaged because I ask her dad to marry her. A year after that, because that was the minimum for the planning, minus me breaking the rules and planning 80% of it..
We were happy until she passed.
This answer your query, Kali?
OLD school internet yes. New internet no. We lack the social connections of us being a small, close knit group of people. Everyone is doing it now.
Bravo
Why ^_^? Maybe I'll talk about the relations some day.. and. good lord....
I genuinely mean it, I enjoyed reading it :3
Just take everything said with a grain of salt
I send him gifts every so often. Whether it'd be from places I've visted or Christmas. Its when I have enough money to get him something.
I don't consider it weird, its just the level of trust that you have to gain is far greater than if you actually meet with the individual.
