Why can no first person games have peripheral vision?
I spelled peripheral wrong lol.

There is a way they could add peripheral vision into games, they are just lazy.

Why they need peripheral vision?
Ironclad Oct 11, 2016 @ 11:55pm
Most of the people don´t have screens suitable for that kind of vision. You would need pretty expensive monitor or a virtual reality headset or something...imo that is why they do not inlude this kind of vision in their games.

You do technically have peripheral vision. Do you see things at the corners of your screen? That's your peripheral vision.

Well they're trying to pull that off with virtual reality technology, but I'm pretty sure the investment bubble for that has popped for now; it isn't catching on like people thought it would.

Probably because of how stupid people can look while they're wearing it.

Or the price.

Price doesn't matter. People will blow hundreds of dollars on garbage they don't need, just look at Paradox Interactive.

What does play a role though is whether or not something is capable of being more than a long-term fad.

When prices are around $600 not as many people throw there money away. It is really fun vr but that price is to big.

Our peripheral vision looks fine to us because of how your brain interpets visual information. It's a lot different from how a screen can render an environment. To have a form of peripheral vision, the game would need a rather wide-angle camera lens, which can be disorienting to a lot of players. That said, curved monitors can take a bit of the lens angle skew out of a wide angle, and VR doesn't really have this problem at all given the headset emulates how you visually percieve the world, as a pair of curved but 2D images merged into a wide-angle 3-dimensional image.
Wow, so much misinformation. Read and learn, please. Help fight the illness of misinformation around FieldOfView.

TL;DR: In many cases, all that's required is to change one little number in the game. Works in DX:MD, for example.

Thanks to "Tito Shivan": I just added the FOV explanation video link (of part 1 and 2) to the Guide.

No, it's called higher FOV and bigger screen. VR is only a variant of this.

battlefield and cod for fps games show just what you need. its not a clone trooper mask where u only seen pheripheral and a little bit whats infront. but honestly you wouldnt be looking in your pherpherial (gosh that word) when playing shooters.

That's actually quite precise for PC Gaming.
