I personally don't care about someone who tries to snatch the apex of fame and notoriety by picking a beef with one of the greatest lyricists of all time. That's petty...which is why in "Killshot", Eminem has a line that says "Let's see who can out petty who", because doing a song and calling it "Rap Devil", after Eminem did Rap God years prior, is kind of lame.
Just pick any of Eminem's songs, essentially most of them, and listen to them really carefully. You just might catch some double entredres or play on words that you never noticed for years and years, but the song still makes sense and has a good flow.
His brain is just fully wired to write insanely clever lyrics that still tell a story without going dr seuessey or mumble rap or autotuners, and that, I can respect. does he use pitch correction? yes. Who doesn't? I can't think of any
So many people think Kanye is greater, but need I remind people of the poopity scoop thing, and how he called himself a lyrical genius. C'mon
I like writing songs but I think too many artists go for quantity over quality. Eminem still churns out pretty good songs, whilst pushing 50, or maybe he's already 50. He can freestyle, go acapella, and the best I can do is a lucky freestyle if I am really in an angry mood, or I can spend months writing a single verse to a single song.
From a purely technical standpoint, Eminem is pretty much the kind of rapper we will only see once per couple of generations.
Even freestyle the guy has a strong control over the tone and speed of his delivery. And while it can be developped, Eminem is a natural in this regard.
His writing is not for everyone but when it comes to the talent it ain’t even a contest.
