Match rigging in online games.
thoughts?

personally I think its ridiculous for online multiplayer games to have hidden code which dictates whether you win or lose by either matching you with a bad team against a better one or even worse using dynamic difficulty adjustment (DDA) to buff the other teams accuracy/stats whilst hindering your own.

If you don't know what I am talking about I am speaking of games well known for this practice like the FIFA series.

But it has come to my attention that Overwatch 1.5 is now running this exact same scummy scripting in its matchmaking as proven by patents for the technology registered by Blizzard. EA has similar patents for their FIFA scripting so its safe to assume Overwatch 1.5 has the same crap running in it and I can tell.

There is never a game where you feel you can turn it around or a game that feels balanced, its either win easily or lose badly, no middle ground, I am pretty consistent with my aim and I go from game to game and can easily tell when the matchmaking has rigged me to lose forcing me to quit that match and I have to keep doing this until I get warnings for match abandonment penalty which is -75% battle pass exp, since theres is nothing at all to do in the game except level the battle pass losing that exp because you refuse to play rigged matches is pathetic.

Now older games like TF2 which do not have this hidden code you always know you can turn a game around and win, there is never a dull moment when you look at the other team and think you can't do anything except feed their ego by giving them high kd or just afk in spawn, no, you always have the option of having that one big push to break the defence and cap, not the same with Overwatch 1.5, there is simply no way to turn a game around if the game decides it wants you to lose. No matter how good you personally are.

This is really quite pathetic gameplay when you add that on top of $30 for a single skin. Nobody in their right mind is going to want to play this re-release of an already bad game.

I hope this kind of shady practice of rigging online games does not continue, quite bad that something EA started has spread into other developers like a cancer, I hope it doesn't metastasise to other games because online multiplayer is already bad enough without the game itself being against you.

Never seen that before, you people either play some garbage games or look for an excuse. Like really. I know FIFA has some of that apparently but that game is a wallet sim in the first place rather than one where skill prevails.
Well obviously it is a garbage game if it uses this kind of system. But at least you got to belittle some people in this thread so I hope that helped make your ego feel a bit better.
I stroke my ego in multiple ways but this ain't one of them. I've dipped my toes in almost every online gaming at some point, fighting games, racing, shooters, RTS, on console and PC, you name it. And I did also say same type of crap. "Oh I lost this fight because of bad coding" or "Oh he had a better character", "better tuned car" or some other crap. Point is, noone like to lose and always tries to find an explanation for that.

Games are not rigged by default, but I do agree that ways handicap works in some of them is weird.
Again, Fifa is a good example. Game features handicap, yes, but that is because as I've mentioned before, with option of just buying or "opening" best players in the game (wallet sim) it's almost impossible to have a balanced game. That's why game will try in and somehow support other players. But such handicap is not easy to set, quite often it is so strong a total new player can win, or you can get absolutely dominated by your opponent as game will drop a very minimal amount of support for you.

I think OP worded everything in inmature way. Games are not rigged by default, but some of them will attempt to feature some sort of handicap, which is super hard to implement, giving entire "game is against me" vibe. Or the entire TF 2 part is wrong, I've played that game for more than enough to figure it out lol. There are people out there who think COD and SBMM is something rigged so.

Anyway point is, games not rigged, sometimes systems they implement to support, backfires.
But if people want to go "this is rigged" then whatever, not my trouble. Everyone can belive in what they want.

So many fake conspiracy theories in this thread lol.

There are patents held by Activision [US Patent US20160001181A1] to name the ones I know describing a system to matchmake players in such a way to encourage microtransactions.
See the patent for details but 'microtransaction' can be found 20+ times in it as a clear reason why, but how; it basically profiles players then 'teases' players without an item to think an item is related to performance in careful matchmaking.

Its not far fetched that other games are using systems similar; notably for the one time I tried World of Warships it gave me premium time in a bundle, and during that time I found myself consistently matched against weaker player much much more often than when it expired and I used the same servers and loadouts. Could be sheer coincidence, but really closely related.

TLDR; Profiles on players are made, then matchmaking is rigged from there on.

I agree. It’s one reason I prefer the old server lists with admins rather than auto matchmaking. It doesn’t take me very long to see when matchmaking is rigged. Part of it’s a somewhat natural result how companies do ranking systems, part is due to player retention and unethical business practices. It’s made worse because it encourages more cheating. It can make the game more fun for bad players and cheaters, because it helps them both win more games, while making the experience worse for better players.

It surprises me how many players there are who don’t even notice these things.
What about Apex Legends? PUBG? Would u play those Bun?

Or be like me and play Planetside 2 which has no matchmaking at all

the universe isn't out to get you just because you lost a couple of matches, come on now :shantae_relax:

This isn't an example of the system backfiring. This is an example of a company purposefully trying to exploit the 'one more game' mindset to keep you playing by either pitting you against our putting you with players outside of your actual measured skill range.

The system is doing exactly what is intended to do, keep you playing.

Exactly.

All games that are winnable have a designed winrate.

It’s clearly nothing to do with a player being upset about losing, when the player chooses to lose and the game punishes them for choosing to lose too often. That’s a clear indication that it’s rigged to have a specific minimum win rate, and the developer doesn’t want that win rate to go lower because of their data on player retention.
