EU approves law set to ban the sale of new gas and diesel cars by 2035
What do you think?

Personally, while I like the idea of electric and other more environmentally friendly fuels - i.e. ethanol - cars, things still need big improvements, for one charging electric cars is not exactly a convenient process - at all - and two, battery failures are extremely expensive to repair...

I saw a Youtube video where a guy put a gas powered generator in the back of his Tesla. Best of both worlds.

PHEV's are actually pretty common and I think there either are or were EV's with a built-in generator. The latter was never super popular due to not being able to drive on gas in real time.

RSS scattered throughout earth on 7.5 billion people. Cut that in half or even down to 1 mill people. Suddenly see waves of changes happen and people suddenly have both enough to eat and to go through rss without doing much damage vs 7.5 billion people doing the exact same.

Good luck trying to do that, the average fertility rate in sub-Saharan Africa is above 4, and with not signs of going down. Places like Nigeria that have 200 mil right now are expected to have 750 mil by the end of the century.

And of course, right now, such places do not have standards of living and economies that are anywhere near the developed's world. Imagine when they do start industrializing like China and India are.
tbh higher standards of living = less kids since $$$ go through the roof.

Having 3 kids vs 8 where 8 they all live dirt poor vs 3 investing heavily into them.

Least that's the plan. OFC people are morons but then they add laws like child protection laws and taxes and boom there goes your 10+ kids safety nets

I wouldn't bet on EU exist by 2035 so put worrying about this BS aside for now.

Also, if we project the economy, by that time any car sale will be moot in this area. If that happen to change in any good direction it will mean the greentards are exiled to unicorn land they so much desired.

Similar laws have been passed in the U.S. I don't think it's going to be enforced when the time limit hits.

Classic cars are one reason. Car collectors exist all over the world. Their vehicles require gasoline. What are you gonna do? Impound their cars? Refuse them access to fuel? While still allowing airports fuel?

Diesel trucks are another. You need big vehicles for heavy things. Trains can't go everywhere. Trucks need gas stations.

Poor people. How are they supposed to get about? Park their cars forever and walk? What about people that live 5 miles from a store? They are supposed to walk in the summer heat 5 miles both ways? Or the snow?

Construction & excavation vehicles. I don't think anyone makes an electric engine with the capacity for this type of work. (At least, not on a large-scale.) What're ya gonna do? Turn the clock back 100 years? Give everyone a shovel?

What about ships? The common people can't have gasoline, but MASSIVE barges can have diesel? Surely I could have a small watercraft. It requires gasoline. I'll need a gas station.

Garbage trucks. You'd need twice as many electric versions. Because they carry half as much!

Backup generators at hospitals. Are we seriously going to outlaw those?!

The public will swing against this. Sooner or later. It's impractical.

In fairness and I dont want to sound rude, I dont think the EU expects it to pass, like with the stuff I've heard related to the new *cough* king it literally sounds like the Perliment is expecting a total collapse of goverment long before this takes effect, and thats also if we accept that the climate control clock has 7 years regardless so by the time this takes effect, it will be literally 6 years late.

Are they still making and selling new classic cars?

I think they're banking on EV tech becoming cheaper and better in the next 13 years.

Nobody in Europe lives five miles from a grocery store or 500 meters from a train station.

A generator isn't a vehicle.

But to your point, they really should do something about ships.

In the US there are places like California that are genuinely banning stuff like Generators below a certain size.

Ships are fairly efficient and if you remove most other things that use fossil fuels then SVO might be a genuine option.
