Look at how hand-drawn those graphics are.
I actually kind of like the tendency for still shots from 70s era stuff like Galaxy Express or Aim for the Ace because nobody copied it exactly. The visual language winds up being unique, even though the animation form and techniques themselves are not.
This is an aspect of Japanese craftsmanship often overlooked by people who don’t know the culture very well.
