If i don't like one, i'll find one i do like and play that instead!
Just play the stuff you like and let others play the stuff they like.
Every indie now is either some roguelike or a metroidvania, just like a mass majority of AAA games now focus on cinematic story and graphics above actually being fun to play.
Also yeah, every indie game having some underlying undertone about depression or lgbt is annoying. I understand why they're there, and I support video games as a mean to help people feel more comfortable with who they are but man. It gets really tiring sometimes.
I miss when indie games were an escape man.
Can you give an example or 2?
Not being able to trust reviews concerning indie games. Stuff like Vampire Survivors, Cuphead, Noita, etc, showing up as overwhelmingly positive like people are afraid to say they didn't like it.
If I see one more platformer/sidescrolling rogue-like I might puke. When you read the reviews for these games people act like it's the best thing in the world.... Hours played : Usually under 5 hrs.
I really love a lot of indie games and support the scene but the community reminds me of music hipsters. Nah man.... I ain't gonna enjoy Vampire Survivors. I promise you that.
Aside from that, I despise the community approved art style for these games. Look at Rimworld. It's a game where you literally can run a cannibal farm. You can do crazy stuff in that game. But casuals go crazy for indie games, and casuals love fan art. Anything to not be playing the game.
The fan art for Rimworld is like some weird comic book cartoon stuff? It's not cute.
That whole scene reminds me of the famous saying about books, "You buy a book for one of two reasons.... To read it, or to talk about reading it."
World of Horror comes to mind, the dev fücked off for a year without talking to the community, and when some people brought up the opinion that maybe he just left and took the money, of course the rabid fanbase shät all over themselves from anger.
Worse than the Undertale fanbase i tell you what.
One criticism I have is that it's easier than ever to make games, but making a good game is as hard as it's ever been. It's like if an art gallery started accepting admissions from anyone, including your little niece's crayon drawings. The actual nice art would tend to get lost in the absolute flood of low-effort doodles, crayon drawings, copycats, memes, and actual garbage. The good art is still there, and still as plentiful as ever. It's just dwarfed by all the rest. You can still find it and enjoy it. It just takes a bit longer, and it's kind of annoying.
