Would you use the preffered pronouns
Imagine you meet a person and you see a massive "My pronouns are xe/xim/xir" pin on them. Would you call them xe/xim/xir or would you use "traditional" he/she pronouns when talking with them? If yes/no please say why

If it’s under a work situation then yes. Customer is always right and all that crap. But outside of that If I learned they want to be referred like this I would not talk to them at all after the initial conversation because these types are just looking to get offended. That’s why in a work situation you have to be so careful with these types. They actively look to be offended and then cause you pain

I would just call them bob.
A person's preferred pronouns aren't use when you're talking to that person.

You wouldn't walk up to a person and say, "Hi, how are xe today?" You'd say, "Hi, how are you?"

Preferred pronouns are only used when talking to a third party, "Hey Patty, I'm looking for Yimmi, have you seen xim today?"

And if Yimmi isn't there, how the hell are you supposed to know what xis pronoun pin says?

ok seriously why not use someone's preferred pronouns?

Is "they" not good enough for most people? Starting a word with X with the first letter is really tacky and woefully prone to ambiguous pronunciation. Wiktionary states multiple pronunciations of those listed words, and one absolutely cannot arrogantly correct other people when they don't pronounce it the exact way they desire.

Is it not too much to ask for a commonly accepted, reputed word understood by all?
there's this thing called "asking", usually that solves the problem of pronunciation

so, ultimately it's a disagreement about who they are and how they express themselves
With regard to the words used to refer to them, yes. You can be whatever you want, but trying to insist that others use words to refer to you in ways that don't properly describe you, is insanity.
if you think the pronouns they use don't describe them, then you disagree with who they are

but you don't refuse to refer to someone by their name just because it sounds made up and you have a hard time pronouncing it, do you?

I'd avoid saying names that I struggle to pronounce, yeah. I wouldn't want to upset someone by mangling their name.
...have people seriously never learned about politely asking?
I will use the preferred one within reason. I think this trend is stupid, but if it *really* means that much to people, I'm not going to make a scene over it.

Pronouns are seldom descriptive. If you knew nothing about a person other than their non-standard pronouns, what else could you deduce about them? Just that they picked these pronouns for whatever reason... :Football_ThinksWhat:

And chances are you're using their pronouns when they're not even there. So what does it really matter so long as the person you're speaking to understands who you mean?

Because you don't use a person's preferred pronouns when you're talking directly to that person. Only when you're talking about that person.

Nah.

I think words, beyond a certain point can be confusing if taken to the extreme.

Plus, if you take every single step down this road... Some of you have an idea where it go.
I've already reached the logical end of that road, actually.

I identify as First Person Singular. My preferred pronouns are I/me/my and they must be used when talking about me.
How are pronouns even decided?
Can I just put a bunch of letters together and demand to be called by them?
No.

Why? Because i don't want to.

Also, people who use he/him or she/her are forced to say so now, despite not being part of that culture.

It's a rather uncommon predicament, admittedly, but woe to anyone who struggles with consonant clusters when the insisted pronunciation of the letter X of those words is ks. Or even h (woe be to the French!). Yes, that's a valid pronunciation.

"Hi! My name is Joe. How are you?

By the way, what are your preferred pronouns? I plan to talk about you with my friends later and I don't want to be disrespectful."

Nah, I'm just going to use "you" when I speak with you. :KentHappy:

When you're not around, I'll try to use "Ayy Lmao", but no promises.

Do it once and avoid them thereafter.

Don't need people trying to police my language for personal reasons

Its exhausting and completely disregards any troubles I may be facing, basically making every sentence about them
