Would you use the preffered pronouns
Imagine you meet a person and you see a massive "My pronouns are xe/xim/xir" pin on them. Would you call them xe/xim/xir or would you use "traditional" he/she pronouns when talking with them? If yes/no please say why

Oh but it all is a progression of pushing the envelope / one upping the last one.

Once it started it won't end... that's the point, that's the entire point... there will never be a time where just "they/them" is acceptable.

Even "they/them" is just a first push of that...

"Press X to doubt", as they say :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46ehrFk-gLk

"they" and "them" to refer to an ambiguous person (ie. you don't know who they are, are generalizing, or for whatever reason using gendered pronouns would be inappropriate) has been commonplace for a really really long time.

People just use it naturally and it's even a better choice than "he" or "she", as long as there isn't 2 other people in the room that you're using pronouns to refer to. Some languages just have 1 gender-neutral pronoun in the first-place, which really saves someone the trouble of having to keep track of whether their chicken & burgers are male or female.

Yup. We've only had the singular usage of they/them since the 14th century. At this rate we could be seeing new pronouns in as little as 600 years.

:steamfacepalm:

We don't need "new pronouns" in 6,000 years...
I'm glad that there's no authority on how we should / shouldn't or can / can't use memory pointers.

Tell the rest.. they/them was never used to address one person only. I don't speak to people's imaginary friends for the same reasons.
People have been using "they" in this manner for much longer than people have been using "Player 3" to refer to someone who already has a name.

Have you looked at "people" nowadays? They seem like animals to me.
Just because they carry smartphones doesn't make them any more or less enlightened.
People aren't "just" animals. People are more than "just" animals, but that distinction aside, people ARE animals.
Denial of this is denial of basic biology.

Even any given specific animal is more than just an animal
...the same way that no flower is "just a flower". :flowey:

People should know that use of singular they emerged by the 14th century. https://www.oed.com/view/Entry/200700 - Oxford English Dictionary.

Even if some people argue it is a new trend which happens in greater volume today than in history, everyone should be well aware that language changes all the time anyway.
As in I'm pretty sure you don't use the same language your ancestors did, half of the vocabulary you use are totally different from theirs.

I've got no problem using someone's preferred pronouns. Usually you don't even have to use those pronouns around them. If you don't want to refer to them by their pronouns, just call them by their name.

Yup. Pretty much what I've been saying for 20 pages and doing for 20 years.

No one here really seems to care. Which is OK. I have popcorn.

It doesn't have any negative affect on my life or anyone else's to call people what they want to be called, so I don't see the issue.

I've had three friends transition. (Joke is there's "something in the water" here.)

Just calling them by their name for a year or so kept them from getting all indignant if their old pronouns were used by habit.

Except when I was talking to them. "You/yours" is the only pronoun you use when speaking directly to a person.

Now that I think about it, even if you pointed a gun at me and offered me 15 trillion dollars as a reward for the correct answer, I wouldn't know how to translate any pronouns other than regular ones in my language.

We have he/she/it "On/Ona/Ono", as for multiple people we have they/them BUT there's no gender neutral version. "Oni" is males, "One" is females.

No seriously, how many countries actually CAN translate these?

They probably would... and then ~demand~ you call it a tree as well... pure madness.

People are trying to create a rule to magically translate it. Here (in Poland) they either use broken language version of it\they\them or they just randomly add x at the end of the word.

Would you call a rock a tree?
How is that comparable? A rock can't communicate to me that it wants to be called a tree because it's an inanimate object.
