I managed to come up with a decent character name a couple of years ago and now I just use it for every game where a modern sounding name fits.

I do. Sometimes more than 30 minutes.
i'll go online and research it, make long lists, though ultimately I'll come up with something silly.

In Diablo 2 I recently named my Assassin "Mascara".
In Titan Quest I named my character "Gonorrhea". Sounded like a good Ancient Greek name to me.

If you think up a name on the spot every time you need one then i would say 30 minutes is an understandable amount of time to spend on this.

I have a couple of names that I use throughout all different RPGs, so I never get stuck with those.

It's character creation that bogs me down, I can never settle on anything and spend hours trying to decide how I want to look and what stats I want to have.

If you ever have any trouble coming up with a name, there's usually a name generator for whatever genre of game you're playing. Just Google "scifi/fantasy/(race) name generator" and somebody will usually have you covered.

Only 30 mins? That's really quick for me. I usually take several hours.

Yes it's normal. Giving a good name to a character that you like or made is important, even it takes hours to come up with something good.

Absolutely. I've spent hours going through baby-name lists and using name generators to come up with the perfect name for a character, whether that be a game I'm playing or a story I'm writing.

What's worse is when you pick a name, you finalize the character, you play for some hours, then decide you hate the character and start over again.
