Games in japanese
Are there any games in japanese here on steam? I don't mean japanese audio only, but full thing with hiragana, katakan and kanji. I recently startedstudying the language and would like to have a few tools avalible for practice. I would prefer japanese RPGs (my language level isn't nearly high enough, but I enjoy them a lot) or some kiddy games with simple language.

Steins Gate should have just what you're looking for.

That's an interesting suggestion. I'm not rellay into VN style games and I think Steins gate is going to be a bit complicated for me, bu I'll look into it sometime in the future.

OP in my opinion as a fellow Japanese language learner I would leave Japanese games until you have all the Jouyou kanji, hiragana and katakana as well as basic grammar structures. It's too much of a struggle for not enough payoff otherwise.

Many games support multiple languages, but they don't always support dubbing into other languages. For example, GTA5 has the option for Japanese subtitles and in-game text.

Go into your Library, right-click a game, click on Properties, click the LANGUAGE tab (if it's there; not all games support multiple languages), and then change it to Japanese (or whatever other language). With GTA5, it still has English voice acting, but the subtitles and all in-game text (such as warnings, options, etc.) will be in Japanese.

I just now changed the language in GTA5 to Japanese and took a screenshot.

Also, checking a few games in my Library; MGS5, Assassin's Creed III, Skyrim, Mad Max, Shadow of Mordor, Team Fortress 2, XCOM:EU and Bioshock Remastered 1 and 2 (remastered only, not the originals) support Japanese.

I've used this for helping me learn Spanish. It's nice to be able to hear it English and read it in Spanish, which has helped me learn the basic grammatical structure of the language a lot better. I still speak it like a learning disabled ♥♥♥♥♥♥, though. :cgrazz:

Well If you want to learn through some type of immersion which doesn't involve games, you could try reading Japanese articles or something on the web using the Rikaikun web extension, which lets you see meanings and readings of words when hovering over them with your mouse. It's quite the useful tool.
(EDIT: Rikaikun might only be for Chrome though, not sure)

Yeah, or if you really feel like reading manga or something just go for something simple like Doraemon.

Very good advice!

I had a friend who learned conversational German via Der Spiegel. Most (maybe all?) of their articles are in German and English, which makes it very useful for English speakers to learn German. If there's anything similar in Japanese, that would be a good resource, too.

I try to read some articles from time to time. I can't read most of the kanji, but sometimes I recognise a word or gammar structure, which is freaking awesome! Also I tried to read manga called Yotsuba to.

Or you could, you know, actually study the language.

I'd reccomend what Wortal and Danksama posted. Use the simplified Japanese News articles(They're plenty of them on Playstore so maybe iOS market as well)
This is what I do as of right now. Planning to take some Japanese Language courses next school semester.

Reading easy level manga(anything published by Corocoro) helps too.
(Doremon is published by Tentou which I believe is also responsible for Corocoro)

I don't know if anyone's uploaded the Shogaku X nensei's because those are even easier.
(X, just is a palce holder for the years, they have like these magazines with some manga in it geared towards specific grade schools from 1-6.)

Tokyo School Life I believe has a simplified Japanese option. Check that one out if you want a game with the option for Japanese Text.

I've worked with a lot of people from Japan and they've always told me to not worry about mastering every Kanji there is, unless your going to be focusing on that as a Major.
I still don't know how to take that, I kind of understand it from a certain perspective, but its still good to learn most of the characters.

Just learn the Jouyou kanji and you have pretty much everything you will need kanji-wise. You are right about Doraemon being published by Tentou. Also, on the topic of easy news articles OP should check out the aptly named 'NHK News Web Easy' which is made for Japanese learners. Still though I would have to recommend actually getting the important bits of the language under one's belt through textbooks or actual classes before doing anything else.
