that's the superficial persona and narrative, what he purports. In reality the media helped his rise, he's made millions, and his purpose is to become a sink for lost / waking up youths, to guide them back into the system. This is done under the guise of combatting nihilism and extremeism, in reality, it's just about organization, ideology, and competition. He talks in line with the Overton window and will never lead anyone to real solutions (whether the know what they're working towards or not) because he's either unwilling or incapable of recognizing the problems.

Great post but I would say that Peterson's validation of incels' feelings is not the same as condoning the movement. If they become emboldened in their incel philosophy by his validation of their feelings of rejection & anger then they are getting the wrong message and that's on them.

He's saying what any level-headed person would say to someone with an extremist ideology - it's understandable that you are angry about (insert issue), but actions that hurt others & ongoing hatred you refuse to deal with can't be justified.

Well combating nihilism and extremism is a start. He typically speaks about very basic things regarding youths and their attitudes. Advocating finding "meaning" and suggesting how to go about it. I'm curious what your idea of "real solutions" are.

This much is true...

He ~is~ saying what any level-headed person would say to someone with an extremist ideology... and if that person calls any level-headed person an "Incel" because they have an opposing opinion to that extremist ideology... that doesn't mean they actually are "an Incel"

I think he's a pseudo-intellectual grifter who's peddling reactionary ideology. He speaks authoritatively about the subjects that are way out of his area of expertise to preach his harmful views. Wealth distribution, social inequality, hierarchies, feminism, gender and gender roles, IQ, biology, climate change, Nazism, Marxism, you name it. He's very self-asserting in presenting his opinions as facts, and he teaches us that "we shouldn't try and improve society, because it's all just ThE nAtUrAl WaY oF tHiNgS, and even though it may suck sometimes, it works out in the end, so let us not challenge the status quo".

He's intellectually dishonest and loves attacking others. It's what launched him to fame after all — starting a crusade against "compelled speech" and the "cultural Marxists". For years he's purposefully misrepresented what Bill C16 was actually about (it amends the Canadian laws against discrimination, hate speech, and hate crimes to include gender expression), to frame it all as an infringement on freeze peach by the "post-modern neo-Marxists".

Also from what I've seen his self help advice is usually just banal platitudes and shifting blame from systemic failures onto the individual, which someone's already covered in this thread.

i mean, there are plenty of social factors that more than likely aid in the suicide rate of men, mostly related to expectations of masculinity and the way men who don't conform to them tend to be seen, and similar things can be said about incels

the issue with incels is that, instead of recognizing the broader societal issues at play, they delude themselves into thinking we live in a matriarchal society and want to hold actual, individual women "accountable"
instead of recognizing that they don't need to find a partner to find "success", they blame women and womanhood for the feelings of worthlessness and failure that society puts on men who are unable to conform to strict standards
instead of recognizing that absolutely none of the standards and expectations of masculinity should be followed above who one as an individual is, they delude themselves into thinking that taking these standards to the extreme will make them more "manly" and will make women love "them"
