Casual Pokémon battles with other casuals players are 10 times more interesting and the intended way to play.
But gamefreak did throw a few bones to the more hardcore crowd but again it revolves around grinding the same thing as any other player.
I have Pokemon Sword and it's kind of meh. I just don't feel anything for a lot of the new pokemon. Some of them just seem absurd.
Also the game is not well balanced at all. The whole single player experience with the gym trainers and the legendary pokemon battle at the end are all a cakewalk. Then you get to the battle tower and I was crushed in the first battle.
Whatever mechanics they expect you to know to beat the battle tower, are beyond me. I thought I knew what I was doing and was doing great judging by my performance up to that point.
I think they need to introduce new and unique strategies in the gyms and focus less on leveling and crushing opponents with stat towers. Because that's what I was doing. Picking the hardest hitting abilities and pumping up my attack stat as high as possible. Apparently that doesn't make you a great battler.
FireRed for example have Pokemon Unbound for example which can be played on much higher difficulties which forces you to approach fights quite differently and even use actual strategies at time. While boasting an interesting new story of its own.
Just don’t crank it up to the point it pushes you into the same boring routine as competitive play.
Pokemon isn’t about blind luck but I’m curious to understand why you believe so.
Unlike games of the die like Monopoly, Mario Party, Pokemon is a turn based game of the coin (flip) in trading cards and less so in video game. Chance is involved but can be stacked for or against your favor. Like a lot of tabletop RPGs I’d imagine. The better your deck/crew, the more experience, the right moves and the right emergency items the better your chances are of winning. In fact you can nearly guarantee wins and it can be just as fun if not moreso when you lose as you take the time in between battles to study why you lost and how you can improve. It’s like chess with a bit of random sewn in to make it less predictable and…profitable for The Pokemon Company.
Because I can no longer have them all in the new games I don't battle or buy pokemon games anymore.
competitive doesn't work well in pokemon because by design you don't know the other players team and that decides the match
