Google Stadia is shutting down
Just like in the title, they are shutting it down after like 3 years of functioning. Everyone that bought Stadia or games on there will be refunded

"Google is shutting down Stadia, its cloud gaming service. The service will remain live for players until January 18th, 2023. Google will be refunding all Stadia hardware purchased through the Google Store as well as all the games and add-on content purchased from the Stadia store"

"Refunds will automatically be made through the Google and Stadia stores, and you won’t have to return any hardware. Stadia Pro subscriptions will not be eligible for a refund, but you will not be charged during the shutdown period and can access games you might have redeemed as a Pro user until everything is wound down. Google has closed the Stadia store, so you can’t buy games or in-game transactions."

Meanwhile, Logitech is about to release a new streaming device that costs not much less than a base model Steam Deck and is really not much more than a budget smartphone in the shape of a handheld.

and most reviews seem to say it's gonna have a hard time selling.

it's just an android tablet with a gamepad and that come pre-installed with Xbox cloud and Geforce NOW.

Yeah, why the heck would anyone would want one of those if there are competitively priced and overall more capable handheld PCs around?

Debatable.

there is one thing I've found interesting about stadia and it's being able to trial games for 30 or 60 minutes.

not having to download a demo version just to have a feel of what the game is about is actually pretty nice.

Honestly, props to them for giving refunds
I doubt it's done out of good will. If they get back into the market In a few years, the people who bought into the ecosystem this time are the people who might again, don't want want to piss those people off if can be avoided.

Per AT[arstechnica.com] they’ll try giving it new legs with “Immersive Stream for Games” till they’re ready to kill that, too.

Yo there was a video a couple years back of some guy playing a shooter on Stadia and he would hit the spacebar, wait a second, and his character would then jump. I knew it was R.I.P. at that point.

That is the BIG problem in the USA. Way too many can not get good internet. And I read that much of the UK is in the same boat. Only the cities have good internet.

For sure. There is so much preexisting coax infrastructure that they're still trying to use and squeeze. Fiber is making its way around but the pace of that all depends on the area... :/
