Young people and old movies
Why do young people hate old movies so much? Trying to get my teenage kids to watch a movie that is older then 1990 is like pulling teeth. I have to practically strap them to the couch and force them to watch it. What kid literally needs to be forced to watch the original star wars trilogy, or the wizard of oz? If the movie is black and white then you can forget it. I could put a gun to their heads and they still wouldn't watch it.

I dont remember hating old movies when I was a kid

Who the hell makes teenagers sit down and watch movies? I wouldn't be happy about having to do that either.

Passive aggressive daddies probably.

I bet if you have kids you would want to show them things you like too

Lately I've grown tired of Hollywood and converted to European movies instead.
Personally I think Europeans do dramas and thrillers better. Some of my favorites...

The Hunt (Denmark)
Terribly Happy (Denmark)
The Wave (Norway)
Next Door (Norway)
Taken 3 (France)
Transporter 2 (France)
The Canal (Ireland)
The Killing of a Sacred Deer (UK/Ireland)

I've made a IMDB list too, which will probably evolve with time

Taken 3 is crappy compared to the first one...
maybe dont force people to do stuff they dont like?
Well I was actually referring to older black and white American science fiction and horror. Stuff like the last man on Earth, the thing from another world, them, invasion of the body snatchers, creature from the Black lagoon, The day the Earth stood still. Cultural touchstone movies that entered into what the mainstream and haven't left even after 70 years.

Although the criterion collection of Akira Kurosawa films is amazing.

Uhhh a parent that feels it's important to spend time with their children... I mean they force me to blow $40 at the theater whenever some new idiotic super hero movie comes out that I dont want to see, and I sit through that. Isnt fair that I get to make them sit through a few movies that the old man wants to see?

Invasion of the body snatchers ( the original black and white one. Not the dorky ones from the 70s and 90s) and the day the earth stool still (again I'm talking about the black and white original and not that stupid one with Keanu Reeves) are just great movies.

Funny games 1997 (euro straw dogs)
Solaris (russian version)

I haven't seen Solaris but I've seen the american remake of Funny Games.
I can't remember anything from it.....which perhaps is a sign XD

What a list.

Not even one with an 8.0 score.
The killing of sister George
Hush, hush sweet Charlotte

Both those films made me very uncomfortable.

Glad someone gets it

I'm 26 years old, and the reason I don't like movies made before 2000s
is not just because of the picture-quality, but it's because the camera is too static.
You don't have cameras diving into explosions or fancy movements like in
Total Recall (2012) and modern action films. I need that
Total Recall (1990) is way better than the 2012 remake. Also produced a lot of rather good memes.

I recommend you read Philip K. ♥♥♥♥’s short story titled “ We Can Remember It for You Wholesale”.

Japan is great at a lot of things, but TV and cinema isnt one of those things
True.
The whole idea of the “Western” came from Japan’s 7 Samurai series. All the tropes you hear about in modern westerns and old ones...stem from that series. It’s just a culture difference separating them.
