Both are different.

Two bulgarian brothers are the founder of cyrillic. Where both languages are build from.
Both sides can understand some words, but usually it is very different in many ways. Be it words wrote differently by the same meaning or be it dialect wise. Some words are almost the same, just differs by some letters in it.

One is called Bulgarian, and one is called Russian. That's the difference.

stuff similar to this word for milk

moloko - russian
mljeko - serbocroatian
mlyako - bulgarian

1
odin - russian
yeden - serbocroat
edin - bulgarian

Actually, for milk it's ''mleko'' in serbian, and ''mlijeko'' is for croatian. And number ''1'' is ''jedan'' in both languages.

What, just because they use the same script? Yes, there are differences. Finding those Try a linguistic book or two, read up on the grammar and syntax, and so on and so forth.

Hardly anyone speaks "british english" (by that I assume you mean RP, of course) in everyday life. It's all dialects in the Isles.

Well there are differences in the alphabets(for example Bulgarian is the only Slavic language that has the letter “ъ”). Also Russian language has cases but in Bulgarian, instead of cases, we use more prepositions. And last but not least, Bulgarian sounds a lot more rough than Russian.Hope this helped!

They are pretty different, but if you've never had any encounter with slavic languages i can see how they may seem the same, but there are a lot of differences between them
