Yea but what is the big deal though?! I just don't see what the big deal is, all it needs is just simple conversion, and machines do that for you nowadays, not you. I know that I complained a lot about weird stuff in Europe, but mainly out of humor and ignorance, but certainly not unit measurements, or custom in general. If I live in a place and I don't travel outside of that place whole my life, why should I have to change my own custom to be like the rest of the world? or just because few scientists use them on daily basis? Complaining the old unit measurements is like complaining why we are still speaking English, or just 1 language, which almost everyone surely still prefer to do, because I would not definitely want to be forced to learn another language, like tomorrow.
Well it's this kind of thinking which stifles progress...

...I mean, if you want a false sense of freedom by clinging onto relics of the past like the imperial system so that you're a unique pariah state sure, but if you haven't noticed that hasn't stopped the technocracy from achieving domination.
It's honestly not as big of a deal as you're making it sound. Many people in the US are taught both anyway and experts will always use metric so I don't think it matters.

Say that to a scientist, physicist or engineer.

No, you.

Yes, people around the world throw reason out the window when they think of America. I agree.

No.

Nah. That would be the fault of those that call everyone an "-ist" or a "-phobe". The refusal to accept those that disagree into society? That's how oppression starts. Which can only lead to revolution.

There is also a symbolism of shunning SI units, it means that a country doesn't value science or scientific institutions.
False.

The U.S. doesn't use metric as a standard because of money. Not ignorance, or a hatred of science.

In most of the world, you can only sell people one set of tools. In the U.S.? You get to sell them the same tools twice. Because despite the official stance, lots of products use metric.

These should be a revered source of national pride, the world would be a lot different without MIT and other such institutions in USA making enormous contributions to the progress of humankind, but so many Americans take these achievements for granted and shun science
So, we are scientific leaders, but also ignorant of science. I see. You're insane with hatred.

I'm sure the world will be a much better place when U.S. demilitarizes and the China becomes the world's defacto leader. I'm sure nothing bad could possibly happen.

The first thing Qin Shi Huang did in his conquered territories was standardize written language and units of measurement, and declared himself emperor of "all under heaven." And he did have a thing for vitality pills.
I love that movie, even if it is apologia for invasions and conquest in the name of unity.

Also, most historians agree the whole legalism persecutions and "burying of scholars" business has been exaggerated over the centuries. Executions were rare.

I remember this piece of wisdom

The rest of the world drives on the right side of the road; the British drive on the correct side of the road.

So... I type a long message refuting all your points. You then take a single word I typed, and paint me as a conspiracy theorist.

My bad. I didn't realize I was dealing with a troll.

You didn't refute a thing. Not worth my time.

These should be a revered source of national pride, the world would be a lot different without MIT and other such institutions in USA making enormous contributions to the progress of humankind, but so many Americans take these achievements for granted and shun science like they have tall poppy syndrome or something. The free world needs a strong America but unfortunately ignorance is crippling the nation and I see a future where it is no longer the no.1 super power because it is held hostage to irrational ideologies.

I mean, if you want a false sense of freedom by clinging onto relics of the past like the imperial system so that you're a unique pariah state sure, but if you haven't noticed that hasn't stopped the technocracy from achieving domination.

It is not really a big deal...but it would be a big deal if you got a simple hatred for the old unit measurement, and you want us, the whole US country to abandon the whole old unit measurement on daily basis, like overnight (or even overtime). It's just silly.

I say that it'll be fine as we keep both, it's fine as it is.

Scientific literacy is important for progress, SI units is the language of mensuration.

Fundamentaly, since 1893 the US system is based on metres and kilos anyway, so when converting a measurement from imperial to metric the unnecessary process introduces rounding errors which would not otherwise exist.

We shouldn't overlook the engineering blunders caused by having to do unit conversion. It's a big deal when NASA's $125 million Mars Orbiter failed and all of that precious tax payer money goes up in smoke because of dodgy unit conversion.

This post does better than I can in making the case.
