h265 vs HEVC vs HEVC2
In order to save space for my massive anime collection and also due new anime series tend to be a way too big per episode (over 1GB in standard h264 1080p), I started to switch out whatever I can for higher compression HEVC files.

But some are marked as h265/x265, others HEVC and recently some where marked as HEVC2 with 12bit video and EAC audio. Is there any difference between h265 and HEVC and HEVC 2 is only some gimmick? Cause I didnt found any info about it, but anime subbers tend to adapt new techs as first, so Im kinda confused.

HEVC = version 1 profile
HEVC2 = version 2 profile

they're both H.265, just different profiles.

Assuming it answers my initial question its not really necroing after a mere month. Thanks.

And yeah I use MPHC with Mad VR codecs where I didnt had yet a issue to not able to play anything
