How to loosen action figure joints?

I love posing action figures, and I bought a Duke Nukem action figure to pose, but the dang thing has a stiff leg that won't move at all, possibly from being in the box since 2011, although I suspect it may have been out due to brittleness on the package and worn paint. I keep reading to put him in boiling water, but I'm too scared that it'll break him, especially more scared since most sellers are selling him for 70-80 bucks

You can use oil lubricants for those. But I have no much experience with action figures honestly. I just pre-ordered my Mafex Spiderman Homecoming and I'm excited to receive it next july.

I'd love to try to lubricate it, but it's a sliding leg, and I can only expose part of the underneath because the joint next to it is an outwards joint

How about use a toothpick and apply soap in it? Maybe it can reach from it's joint there. I don't know about boiling water, it looks risky and might ruin the paint.

I'd need to wait till morning to try that, but I hope I can get it to work. Also, I think that's the point of the boil, sometimes paint gets in the joints
