They're only a handful of 27,000 dollar editions of the game until utopia is reached and the game is complete.

If it ever gets released it wont likely be anything they said it would be. Its too ambitious project, and if things that Dreamcastguy youtuber said last year is true, it might simply run out of money, because developlent doesnt advance and whole team is in complete mess due to lack of direction.

I'd say a 27,000 dollar edition for some ship pdfs is a scam. Not only that, you needed to pay 1000 dollars just to see what was in the dlc pack.

Just because you get a product doesn't mean it's not a scam, it can also be a scam if it's grossly over promised and overpriced.

I can sell a McDonald's hockey hard for 10k, and while the guy is getting his product, it would still be a scam because the card will not be worth anything like that.

Could you imagine if you bought this 27k dlc back in 2018, and the game still doesn't have any completion in sight and all those ships you bought are still unusable pdfs?

That Mcdonalds argument is incorrect. It would only be a scam if you convinced that person that card is actually worth that much or more. Same way Star citizen is only a scam if their intention was to never made it anywhere near the scale they said, and they just keep killing time, while they slowly work to create tech demos and eventually make some ordinary space game.

That's correct, and star citizen convincing people that their DLC is worth 27k and you need to pay 1k to even see what's in the dlc is a scam because they're trying to convince you that the game is worth that much, when no video game in history has even come close to that.

Even someone who's played WOW since creation hasn't spent close to that much if they had a subscription the entire time- while also actually having a product to play during that time.

And yes, the only way someone would buy a McDonald's hockey card for that much is if they were convinced it was worth that, which no McDonald's hockey card has been. Just like star citizen convincing people to buy 27k worth of pdfs.

If any reasonable person in their industry would know that they could not deliver on their promises, it doesn't matter if one could prove it was intentional or not.

One day Star Citizen is going to reach "The O.J. Trial" level of controversy in the gaming community.

Even so, it seems the average lifetime of controversies in the gaming community is about two to three weeks... There's always something else that's newly shinier that comes along.

So is selling a umbrella that is not water proof for over 1500 euro also a scam?
What about a digital box worth 2 euro, that gives you a skin ingame?
Is it a scam to sell burgers, that don´t look at advertised?

For Star Citizen to be a scam, it would have to be trying to decieve or defraud someone. In the case you have, it is simply putting out various offers, that people "clearly" can read about and "see" what is about and what they "obtain"

If it was a scam, it would have had to be deceptive in its nature. Like if I told you, that I had this special coin, that I got from my aunt (that I actually crafted myself to look like a special coin) and by purpose, tries to defraud you to buy it for a large amount (even if its not what I advertise it to be) then it is a scam.

By your argument, steam is having scam games on its site, actually a lot of them.
What would you call this?

In many ways, I see games with lootboxes more as fraud/scam, than a game like Star Citizen, mainly because in Star Citizen, I know what I get (I can see it, read about it and then make a choice) in ie. CSGO, I can´t make a choice on what to specifically get, since it will be random, basically I am gambling at the slotmachine (by your argument, that is also a scam)

How much is train simulator with all its DLC´s ??? is it 10k or something? is that a scam as well?

If you think the answer is yes, then I urge you to use the report game on the storefront (you can pick scam there)

27k edition in 2018 promises a bunch of ships, 4 years later those ships are still unusable PDFs. How much more time needs to pass for it to be considered fraud? If you still can't use that DLC content in 50 years, is it not considered a scam as long as the devs are still claiming they intend to release the content?

Even if it isn't deceptive, it's predatory.

Pyramid schemes are not scams by your definition because they are telling the truth, but they are still illegal because they are predatory. They are designed to take advantage of the foolishness of people.

Pyramid schemes are only scams if it's not the government doing it.

Proof: social security in the United States or Canadian pension plan in Canada are both definitions of pyramid/ponzi schemes.
