This is the closest thing to Subnautica that I've tried.
But at the same time, it's very different.
I highly recommend.
It's an ocean game :P

for whoever cares
How many space games are there? They are not exactly flooding the market either, are they? Humans know the surface of Earth best, by sheer experience, it's just our natural habitat. There we can do the most, there we are in our field of expertise. And I think there is some kind of tendency in human nature or at least in fiction to not go way out of your league unless you are willing to do extensive research or unless you actually are an explicit fan of the new and unknown. But the ordinary person actually tends to fear it a bit, especially when it isn't happening in their natural habitat.
Of course and somewhat paradoxically if you ask someone to very generally speak of what games are supposed to let us do it's the ability to experience the new and unknown. But not every area or scale of unknown is the same, there is... "good" unknown and "bad" unknown... and you can only go so far with that before you either make a fool of yourself or don't get too much people attracted in the first place.
Because the consumers might just not be interested. I saw a friend play Subnautica. It didn't look too bad. But being underwater most of the time, potentially not seeing much of daylight at all but a general dark and dreary ambiance, and on top of that having to constantly be aware of more bearings and directions than I would ever have to pay attention to on dry land - that can already overwhelm some people and be a mild turn-off.
If I think about it it's probably the same reason why I don't like spelunking/playing below-earth games too much unless they are made more colorful than they normally would be. I still yet have to explore the cave biomes in Don't Starve Together fully despite my 1+ k hours in that game, and I'm fairly sure it's not just about the gameplay in them being harder for some reason. I also simply just don't like the visuals and ambiance. I never really got too deeply into Terraria either because a lot of it takes place underground. I instantly preferred the colorful sky setting of Columbia in Bioshock Infinite over the dark and dreary Rapture. I could surely list more if I thought longer about it.
I played Stranded Deep and liked it. But I didn't really like it for the swimming parts. Most of the game takes place above water. So in this context it's quite different to Subnautica.
hard to do it right. Breathedge is pretty Fun and i like Osiris New Dawn and The Outer Worlds :/
But im still waiting for something better to spawn
Also: Check out the Cod Infinite Warfare Moon Mission and Space Jet Fighter Missions
very well done but you only get like sooooooooooooo few Space Stuff :(
For ya interested in Sci-Fi Cities.... Cyberpunk 2077. Nothing comes close but you gotta unlock the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ first -.-
still it looks insane but NOT ENOUGH
wrong scale, bad gameplay, mediocre story, not that fun for an open World Game
Try harder triple A Studios. ITS NOT ENOUGH
B minus minus minus for the best Stuff out there...
more than 1% but its still a frighteningly low number, there is so much in the ocean we don't know about.
that said it would make a good setting for a lot of games, including horror games, pity Subnautica is on an alien planet rather than on earth.
