Why are there so few Ocean games ?

Hi,

genre is not well fed

everybody loves subnautica and stranded deep is kickass

maybe it's in development but i want more open world ocean games

basically more Subnautica but bigger and better and more storms and jetskis

and aliens attacking earth idk

Most played games are shootings, so the developers prefers to make shooting games than try something new
There is some ocean games, but most of them never become popular
The genre isn't popular. Every developer prefers to make something that people will buy and play, no one want's to spent time for achieving nothing in back
I personally like the ocean games too. Maybe someday we see some good games in that style..

nah i checked all the games there are. all crap i want base building and subnautica quality

ea or some big ass game studio should do this

lets call it: Atlantica and you are a Sci-Fi researcher waging war and then using atlantica to build ya sci-fi base

also giant turtles and megalodons and the bloop :D

so a mix of subnautica and aquaknox and stranded deep with a bit of war of the worlds

anything deep ocean related is more into horror genre due to claustrophobic atmosphere. it can be open world but as what i see it's more into linearity because horror :)

played battlefield 1 or v ( cant remember ) and it was a blast

2010~ ish around they stopped making good games it seems. What's up with that ?

look at freakin cyberpunk. It's alright but it doesn't have a good feel. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ scale ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ engine

how come rage 2 has a better feel and why does the hunter call of the wild manages to deliver a proper open world map

i also don't want another cod (or something similar in general). with that reason i play more calmer fps. or at some point, stealth games. might buy splinter cell chaos theory and blacklist at some point.

"Ocean" is not a game, it's a skin. Aqua Kitty DX is basically Defender (1981) and as far as i remember Aquanox it could be some helicopter shooting game. I think most people could look up in the sky and wish to fly but not so many can see the ocean and dream to dive.
Now guess what could have the better sales.

oh btw: i don't want realistic stuff other than sharks that are maybe a bit too big and aggressive but stranded deep is annoying everyone with that realisic colours crap ( u know...u go deep and colours go pale )

i want nemo sh*t and fighting an angry kraken

and i want to see whats at the bottom of the...famous trench

I dunno, I don't feel like it's that uncommon a setting.

There were several Ecco games
There was an Aquaman game
Abzu
Ass Creed IV/Rogue

And tons of games from the "level archetypes" era had ocean levels:

Mega Man 5, 8, 9, X, X2, X4, X7, ZX, ZXA, Legends 2, Battle Network 5
Every Mario ever
KotOR
Kingdom Hearts
Crash Bandicoot Warped

No, "everybody" doesn't.. and that's probably why there are so few of them.

Nearly everything you listed is more than a decade old so it safe to say that modern gaming does not care about ocean setting, let alone open world ones
