I'm not saying it is, but denying the elephant in the room is a sure way of making sure the refrigerator door will never be able to close.

I recall an short story series or book , EE doc smith I think - long out of print. where a police detective from the present travels forward in time and visits a police department in the future (for work purposes) where adverts abound (a bit like they do today) and find they are unable to do police work for all the distraction.

As for the OP, I'm probably not the best at giving advice, but here's my best shot:

It's her decision, and if you let her know that you respect it, and also be supportive and have her know that you'll be her #1 fan, that will probably make her feel good. If she doesn't want to go through with it, that should be fine too.
