rising is because i like hack and slash and this game is very memeable
tpp is because i love stealth, the gameplay is fun and the story tho.... it's a literal ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
I did like all the MGS but this one took it to the next level as an opened world styled game which allowed me to hoard resources and recruit soldiers. I wished they made more MGS games and not just spin offs.
Hideo Kojima notice me!

It was the first MG that I ever played. It was weird af and fun as hell.
10/10

It's definitely the best overall package. Gameplay is dated, but tone, music, story and bosses are all the best in the series.
Besides, the next two games were a major slog in the gameplay department because of first person aim.
Though to your point OP, it took pretty much all of these things from 2. S1 just put some really nice polish in it and prettied up the cinematics. In terms of impressiveness for the time, 2 smokes all the others.
WHAT A THRILL...
PW had this problem to a lesser extent, but you could still go crazy on the tanks and whatnot. TPP, I think it's literally just Sohilarious and that one freaky enemy unit.
3 & 4 are locked in a dead tie for my favorite. I thought 4 was literally mechanically perfect, and the story was...well, it was very Kojima, but it was also very well-presented. However, Snake Eater was such a unique experience, and amazingly ahead of its time - for those of us who played it in its own era. Also the eventual re-release did every bit of justice to the original that it deserved, so that was good.
Peacewalker is my better-than-I-expected dark horse. I mean it's still not on the same level as the other two, but it deserves more credit than it often gets. Partially because of its totally ass release/exclusive scheme.
MGSV was...fine, but palpably unfinished. The whole thing felt like a cry for help by someone who was being forced out of the design process by terrible executive policies, and...well yeah, we all saw how that ended.
I just also really want to end with one tiny little personal sentiment:
♥♥♥♥ you, Konami.
I liked Death Stranding enough to go for100% achievements though.
Snakes Revenge does have it's silly charms, though.
You just made my day sir!
I'm pretty sure MG2 is probably the most underrated and under recognized game in the entire series and I'm so glad someone can appreciate what it offers!
(That isn't to say everyone else's choices aren't also awesome)
And for those of you who have never played it - It's available in a few collections, and packaged with MGS3 Subsistence among other means. Well worth checking out!
