Favorite Metal Gear game(s) and why?
Greetings MGS fans! What's your favorite game in the series? And before you ask! https://youtu.be/2sGxUkubKjg I own every single one (including the spinoffs) but mine personally is MG2: Solid Snake - because of it's especially dark atmosphere and narrative/thematic elements which were mostly unheard of in games at the time. (Kojima didn't even want to make it!)

How about you? :VSnake:

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I did like all the MGS but this one took it to the next level as an opened world styled game which allowed me to hoard resources and recruit soldiers. I wished they made more MGS games and not just spin offs.

Hideo Kojima notice me! :burosob:

Snake Eater.

It was the first MG that I ever played. It was weird af and fun as hell.

MGS V: The Phantom Pain because it's Kojima's Metal Gear Solid masterpiece. All the stealth mechanics are in full bloom, the story is the deepest and subtlest, and the OST is superb.
10/10 :VSnake:

S1

It's definitely the best overall package. Gameplay is dated, but tone, music, story and bosses are all the best in the series.

Besides, the next two games were a major slog in the gameplay department because of first person aim.

Though to your point OP, it took pretty much all of these things from 2. S1 just put some really nice polish in it and prettied up the cinematics. In terms of impressiveness for the time, 2 smokes all the others.

All in all, MGS:V is my favorite. Mostly because it's the only one I played.

I played almost 3 hours and I had no idea wtf was happening. Eventually I accidentally threw a crew member into the ocean and I stopped playing after that because it said I lost points or something, idk.
It was this kind of stuff that dragged TPP waaaaaay down the list for me. You can't kill enemies or you lose heroism points or whatever they're called. You can't blow up tanks because then you can't extract them. So all you can really do is crawl around tranqing stuff. Just terrible.

PW had this problem to a lesser extent, but you could still go crazy on the tanks and whatnot. TPP, I think it's literally just Sohilarious and that one freaky enemy unit.

It was always a battle between the first and the second but phantom pain is the best one. It was sadly not finished but overall it was the best mgs game also on a personal level. You know what i mean when you finished the game

MGS2 was great. I really did enjoy it. I feel sad that I need to mention it first as an aside - because it's honestly not anywhere on my final list. It's just right across that line of "too dated" for me now.

3 & 4 are locked in a dead tie for my favorite. I thought 4 was literally mechanically perfect, and the story was...well, it was very Kojima, but it was also very well-presented. However, Snake Eater was such a unique experience, and amazingly ahead of its time - for those of us who played it in its own era. Also the eventual re-release did every bit of justice to the original that it deserved, so that was good.

Peacewalker is my better-than-I-expected dark horse. I mean it's still not on the same level as the other two, but it deserves more credit than it often gets. Partially because of its totally ass release/exclusive scheme.

MGSV was...fine, but palpably unfinished. The whole thing felt like a cry for help by someone who was being forced out of the design process by terrible executive policies, and...well yeah, we all saw how that ended.

I just also really want to end with one tiny little personal sentiment:
♥♥♥♥ you, Konami.

Both S1 and S2 broke the fourth wall in the same way The Matrix did.

Never really played any of them for more then a few hours.
I liked Death Stranding enough to go for100% achievements though.

If you liked Death Stranding then MGS is extremely similar but more combat and less deliveries. And I wish they make Death Stranding 2. Fragile was my favourite character!

I'll just say the original MG1 and 2, just because too many people forget they exist. Or only know the noncanon NES stuff.

Snakes Revenge does have it's silly charms, though.

You just made my day sir! :lilacstare:

I'm pretty sure MG2 is probably the most underrated and under recognized game in the entire series and I'm so glad someone can appreciate what it offers!

(That isn't to say everyone else's choices aren't also awesome)

And for those of you who have never played it - It's available in a few collections, and packaged with MGS3 Subsistence among other means. Well worth checking out!
