James Tiberius Kirk
Why does his tombstone say James R. Kirk, in that episode when Mitchell's eyes go funny?

According to D.C. Fontana in the introduction for Star Trek: The Classic Episodes 1, when the mistake over the middle initial was discovered, Gene Roddenberry decided that if pressed for an answer on the discrepancy, the response was to be "Gary Mitchell had godlike powers, but at base he was Human. He made a mistake."

So not as bad as Lucas trying to explain his Parsecs mistake.

The R and the T are right next to each other on a KB. A typing mistake when instructions were sent to the props department?

I love how Roddenberry explains it away in a philosophical way... That man was a true visionary.

I'm still of the opinion that Cumberbatch should have played Gary Mitchell as the antagonist in Into Darkness, as was theorized before they announced it as Khan. I think it would have made for a better overall experience... (Yes, I know there is a tie-in comic with Mitchell, but it's not the same).
lol i loved that episode as a kid. i had the book of it with all the photos, like a comic book. Can't remember what those were called...fotonovels maybe? Something like that. I had about 10 of them, i seem to think there were 12 to collect in all. I may be misremembering, but i think in the book Kirk says something like "Mitchell and Dehner are dead, beam me up" when he's on his communicator.

I don't know that much about Star Trek after TOS, i mean i've seen the odd episodes and movies here and there. Does Mitchell ever show up in anything else?

AFAIK, that character doesn't.

But, the actor played Dr. Frank Poole in "2001: A Space Odyssey." Pretty cool. :)

I think we all know who was behind that. :steamsalty:

Because that episode was the pilot and later they decided it was something else.

It was his secret middle name - Romulus.

Shatner will be appearing at a St.Louis convention next month. ( formerly known as Wizard World)

His autographs are not cheap nor are his photo ops...

I have a signed William Shatner trading card. I actually have signed trading cards of most of the cast, except DeForrest Kelley and James Doohan who both died quite a long time ago.
