why do people focus so hard on escapism instead of actually helping themselves

There are things in life that just can't be fixed no matter how much elbow grease and pep one puts in it.

Escapism helps with giving peace even for a little bit.

Sometimes you need to escape your own mind, just for a breather.

Because escapism is infinitely more fun than spending your entire life fretting over how crap everything is.

Anybody who says "well do something about it then" is completely missing the point. I could win 2 20 million on the lottery and i'd still have all the problems i have, i'd just have more money to spend on escapism!

I think a lot of people who criticize escapism don't realize how prevalent it is. We all do it, and I would suggest we all do it A LOT.

The OP has 143 games. That's 143 avenues of escapism.
1,117 hrs on Left 4 Dead. That's A WHOLE LOT of escapism.

Jesus. how do you play 1100 hours of something!?
That's over 45 days, one ONE game.

No... that's ~entertainment~ there's a difference.... and there's no "WE" if that's your crutch that's on you, don't try to claim "we".

Playing video games of 45 days sounds like a lot... until one realizes that it's 2 hours a day over a year, some people's drive to work takes more time then that over a year.

Escapism is when you live, breath, eat, sleep an entertainment to the point it affects one's IRL life and harms the psyche of the person because the fake world they made for themselves is more important then the real world... that's escapism, only being able to handle the make believe and not reality.

You know, at least in most cases I would say that it is the real world that caused harm to the psyche of a person.
Honestly I cannot think of a situation in which escapism could be the original cause of psychological harm,

That's because they don't teach Narcissus and other Greek Mythology in school like they use too...

Real world doesn't harm... unless one lets it. But escapism ( and I'm not talking about watching a 2 hour movie to entertain oneself ) in the long run harms one's ~sense of~ reality... and when reality DOES come crashing back in... they can't handle it and crawl further into their fantasy world. Escapism is the ultimate "Ignorance is bliss"... but it doesn't work, the real world only remains and people need to deal with it rather then run to escapism every time their feels get bruised.

Edit:

Not to mention... people now have the false idea that their escapism ~IS~ reality and others need to not only accept but take part in their escapism so they can survive the real world because their escapism is the only "reality" they can handle now after being exposed to it for so long.

And that's not going to happen.

There's not much to be helped if they're escaping from something beyond their own personal problems.

Just like everybody else, you too are slowly dying even now, while reading my posts on the forum. We'll see how much real world does not harm when the damage will be so much that you will be forced to think about it. I spend most of my time on escapism and I'm still less illuded than most of you.
Or maybe I spend most of my time on escapism exactly because I am less illuded than most of you.
Real world does a lot of harm. Both on your psyche and on your body as well, in variouis ways and for various reasons. I'd like to know how long it will take you to become less illuded than an escapism lover liike me.

Because some people get very, very tired of fighting that uphill battle all day every day.
Samwise 31. mar. 2022 kl. 16:58
How do you even know that people doesnt focus on anything else than escapism?

Because not everyone can be 100% on all the time. Even if you're well grounded, and in reality for 90% of your day, you may roll play for the other 10%. And where is the line between escapism and social interaction. Is group play a social activity? Is just hanging out and doing nothing social activities an escape?
Is escaping all that harmful if you are capable of getting back to reality?

It is often due to a lack of good options.
Adversary 31. mar. 2022 kl. 17:56
It's easier to whine about something than it is to do something about it. And unfortunately, there's a lot of people who hate putting in effort.

So, be the exception that proves the rule. Become the change you want to see. Set an example for your peers to follow, and let it be a damn good one.

Because it's a lot safer to indulge your adventurous spirit through books and games, than running around doing crazy ♥♥♥♥ in real life.
