Have you met someone that actually pretended to be a gamer?

I think out of all the things that people try to be fake at (bodybuilding, kpop, ethnicity,etc) being a fake gamer doesn't really makes sense. We don't get any sort of clout for being a gamer nor do we even get any recognition from it unless, I don't know, if you want to pretend to be a twitch/ gaming streamer. Even with that it's not something worth pursing.

We didn't have game rentals were I grew up but kids were always borrowing and sharing. We had a sense of community which I believe is not quite the same today.

Then we had the arcades, Kids were technically not allowed in but there was nobody enforcing the 16+ rule since arcades would likely half their profit if they did that. Kids would physically gather there, usually around the latest fighting game, reinforcing that sense of community.

That said, if you use save states to clear a 90's console game, or limitless continues to beat an arcade game, you aren't getting the full experience and the satisfaction for beating it. People today understand the satisfaction of beating a Dark Souls game through trial and tribulation but don't treat retro games with the same respect, experiencing retro games much like a tourist, never really grasping its essence.

I don't know what makes a "fake gamer" but a "true gamer" doesn't use save states in retro games.

mmm.... Just last year I completed Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 on an emulator and admittedly I have used saved states... simply because I just want to progress through the story. When I was a kid, I did play a lot of ps2 games where save states were obviously not possible to do. I'd say what makes a person a "real" gamer than a fake gamer is that person plays a game genuinely for fun. Bonus points when they happen to have a good amount of knowledge about anything related to videogames.

from what I see you do have gamers of varying dedications and with different motivations , well of course there are some that do pretend to like games to look cool in front of certain audience but I don't think they're a majority.

it's like sport , some do it for the fun of it and don't care if they're bad , some are more serious and a few are proffesional about it.

Not just the beautiful girls, the viewers too. All casuals.

Do you have experience playing with a true gamer? Male or Female, they are God level. They can kill the hardest boss in seconds, and they don't tolerate a single mistake. They probably won't setup channels to make reaction on wins or lose, they will only conquer and create perfect games. It is difficult to catch up, and if you manage to join their group, you get a lot of feedbacks and pointers everyday. It became real stressful and it's just sometimes not fun playing with them.

After playing with them for a few weeks, I actually lost interest in certain games. It is stressful to run with them, yet also less fun and less speed without them.

maybe it's because I was born playing video games way long before the internet was popular but I never cared about being better then others or proving that I was good at games , I pick games and I enjoy the experience they bring me.

sometime I like a game because it's challenging , sometime I like another because it's got a nice story and compelling characters presented in a way that no movies could do , sometime I like a game because it's got nice Ideas or just allow me to experiment and use my creativity.

huh? I could say the same for professional gamers that compete in esport tournaments. but i wouldn't go as far as to call someone a "true" gamer for beating a hard boss or for winning in tournaments.. both take skill but there's no such thing as a "true" gamer.

I would not say there is a lot's of ''fake gamers'' on twitch but well it's obvious that some are entertainer first more then anything else.

it's not always a bad thing if they're at least genuinely fun to watch.

In the end if someone is pretending to be a gamer it's mostly should not even affect you.

why would you even care about other peoples personal life and if they really enjoy what they say they like or are lying about it ?

He wasnt talking about Kingdom Hearts. He was talking about stuff like original prince of persia.

I've played classic games before. That still doesn't make someone a "true" gamer.

True. But I don't like those. A game like Fallout 4 is perfect for me. They made it way too easy to become unkillable. So I don't need reflexes. I actually have to gimp myself to keep it a challenge that I can do. I am doing Borderlands 2 right now. Another game they made easy to do.
