True. But that would also depend on YOUR definition of a gamer and also knowing what type of context/connotation was used for the word gamer.
When you hear gamer, you don't automatically assume " Oh I bet he plays games but doesn't like them." No of course not, because it would be absurd to think that and not to mention no one does something they don't like unless it's part of their job. Which... sure I guess you can call someone a gamer even though they hate it and are only doing it for youtube money. But still, no one thinks like that when they hear someone is a gamer.
But anyways, if you hear someone that is a gamer, generally you would assume "Oh he enjoys gaming" since gaming is usually enjoyed as a hobby.
And even if I did use the word poser in the title, wouldn't I be gatekeeping as well between being a poser and not-a-poser?
Now sure, maybe I did use the wrong term and should have used poser. That's just how I associate the word "fake gamer" with someone who only pretends to like videogames.
If people mean "pro gamer", or "expert gamer", or "fast-reflex gamer", or "genius gamer", then that's what they should say, as "gamer" by itself has it's own meaning that is a bit more broad in scope.
That's just the way language works, & as a linguist, I wouldn't have it any other way when people can just not be lazy & say 2 more syllables that more clearly communicate what they mean, rather than setting expectations that remove the ability to speak in more generalized terms.
...but that's not actually refuting that sentence of yours, either, as pro-gamers & expert gamers may be unhealthily obsessed with the game & thus don't actually "like" them either.
( I mean, have you SEEN how angry some of these guys get when they lose?! *lol* )
If the point is JUST that someone likes them, then they don't even have to be good at the game.
Like, if you die to the first Goomba in world 1-1 over and over again but are enjoying this gameplay loop, then I guess in accordance with what you've just said, they're a "true gamer" because they were just so happy with the flashing lights & doing that thing that big sister, or uh... their girlfriend does.
We have adjectives for this too, though :
"passionate gamer", or "easily entertained", or "stupid gamer", or "happy gamer"
It absolutely IS gatekeeping and sexist, but you're claiming it's not fair to criticize you for posting low-effort troll posts?
Oh? Where is this TikTok compilation of male-only "fake gamers?"
So now it sounds like you're admitting that you're gatekeeping and that this video is full of crap. Well, glad we could clear that up.
Oh, really? And which one of the women featured in this video said that they play Halo on a PS3?
Look at your own Steam account, only a handful of games, and barely played. It sounds like according to your own comments here, that would make you one of these "fake gamers" or "posers" that you're talking about. Seems a bit ironic/hypocritical, wouldn't you say?
What does having a large library have to do with being a poser if you're not boasting about your large library, or not taking photos in-front of the stack of game boxes, or not performing wild expressions & dialogue in front of a camera or audience while the games-library is displayed behind you?
Personally, I would not claim that you need to have X games to be a "true gamer" but I'm just going off of OP's own comments in this thread.
I had gaming addiction. Does that count? This is an old steam account that I made but never used. I used to have another, main steam account that I had since 2014. But you most likely don't care and really I don't have time to reply all the things you said but to say that you completely misunderstood my post as well as some of the other people on here. Just look at my other replies because I don't want to repeat myself.
No like I completely agree with you. I just want to make it VERY CLEAR that my post has nothing to do with any sort of gate keeping or any nonsense like that.
You used to have another Steam account? What happened to it then? From your comments here, it sounds like you must have had a huge library. Do you need assistance recovering it? Or did you sell it to someone?
Here, allow me to help you with that.

Of course, you don't have "time to reply." You would have to acknowledge your own hypocrisy. I looked at your other replies, and I quoted them in the previous post.
I am reminded of when
people on forums only care about [the meaning of] what you say, & not your intention.
However, I was very confused back then because the person in question was responding to an assumption that they had made rather than what I had actually written.
The thing is, though, his point, while possibly not applicable at that time, was a true & relevant one -- & that's the trap you've allowed yourself to fall into here.
No because I explicitly said I don't want to repeat myself. Also, those steamsupport linksare not going to help because... I deleted my old steam account willingly :) due to gaming addiction. As for the replies... you only nitpicked a few of them without seeing my others ones but whatever.
Show's over everyone! The fun police have officially arrived
I will try to find it but if it exists, then please link to the specific post in question by either quoting it or copy & pasting the post ID URL that appears when you click the post number in the bottom right corner.
Really? That's odd, because you also said this in previous posts:
But hey, whatever you say it is bud. The point is, it sounds a lot like you don't think it's fair for people to judge you by what games you play or how many games you play...while you're doing the same to others. But hey, you do you, huh?
