Silent Hill is scarier, and more creative than Resident Evil.
It's pretty easy to explain why as well.. For one its scarier because it really goes all out to creating the most nightmarish, and twisted creatures that really bring true fear, and mystery to the game.. They can be literally anything, and the world around you can turn nightmarish.. The sound design like from Silent Hill 2 (Still best horror game imo) is far better than anything from RE games.. Its ere, and brings tons of atmosphere to the game.. A lot more than...zombies. Sure RE has some creatures now like vampires, werewolves, and sometimes had odd creatures like Nemesis, but those were far inbetween tons of games with just zombies..

In terms of being more creative, Silent Hill 2 entire world is based off of the characters sins, and mind.. The people they met, the choices they made, ect.. So its just pure twisted hell, and every creature you see, and person you meet has some meaning behind it.. While RE has somewhat of a interesting story, but its not nearly as deep, or as creative.. Silent Hill deserves a return..

I prefer Resident Evil. I found Biohazard and Village cleverly done, has more diverse characters/monsters and was creepy. :marijaonlooker:

Neither of those games had more diverse creatures than Silent Hill... lol RE7 had mostly the same enemies throughout the game (Molded) minus the family. RE Village had a bit more, but wouldnt say it was anywhere near the level of Silent Hill creatures, but opinions.

I think even Killing Floor 2 got more enemy types than those Resident Evil titles, however different strokes for different folks.

I still hope someday we will see a decent remake and/or remaster of Silent Hill games.

Completely agree but resident evil is still scary and good, plus it's still an ongoing series unlike silent hill
What makes it more scary is that it's a dead franchise

Captain Obvious

(but in my opinion the best Silent Hill game is still the first one. Silent Hill 2 is interesting - back then such a plot twist was a novelty, but it is a bit boring, in my opinion at least Silent Hill 1, Silent Hill The Room and Silent Hill Origins are better games, more entertaining.

Never played RE, at least not RE1. Silent Hill was an ok-ish game. I hated that it was easy to get yourself soft screwed if you tried to actually go explore and tried to defend yourself while doing it. But that was only a first playthrough mistake.

I never found neither of them scary.

I don't think these games have the same objectives in term of gameplay, now Resident Evil is more action packed than Silent Hill but both do have generaly a complex level design.

Silent Hill gives the creeps.

Resident Evil gives the adrenaline rush.

Being more creative than Resident Evil is a pretty low bar to step over.

Yes, never really understood why RE is considered as "THE" reference of horror games.
