Why do people hate Fortnite so much?
Why do people, mainly adults, hate that game so much? I'm 27 and I don't get why many people round my age or older than me hate it. My friends play it but every here and there i see people complaining about it being a kids game and being cringe or idk.

I played once on my Switch but i found it pretty hard to play with the joycons and in it's screen, maybe i should give it a try on PC :marijacooing:

I don't hate it but I do dislike it.

Some positives about it though are that they make a lot of 3d models for licensed characters that I use for mods in GTAV.

Different people have different tastes, and for something like a multiplayer game, expressing distaste is a way to get others to play something else. It’s often easier for people to express distaste, than to make a convincing argument that will get their friend/s to play something else with them. Simply expressing a few words of distaste can get a similar enough message communicated that it has the same effect.

But there are other reasons specifically for Fortnite because the company has been involved in some controversy/scandals.

Personally, I don’t hate it. Hate is a strong word. I’ve never even played it. I’m not typically interested in battle royale games in general, because they don’t, in and of themselves, add any elements to a competitive fps that I’m interested in. What they do is lengthen game times by essentially adding participation awards.

Not saying it’s wrong to add fun things to do for people who are unskilled at the competitive parts; or mechanics which allow unskilled players to play for longer. It’s a legitimate way to get more players to play by appealing to a wider audience. However, I prefer the arena shooters where the limitations are in place to focus on the main competitive or team aspects of gameplay.

Team Fortress 2 for example, could add a kitchen to all maps where players can cook food for their teammates to eat to give them bonuses. That could get a lot of people playing who are bad at fps. Some players would just spend the whole game in the kitchen cooking food until the enemy comes and shoots them in the face. Nothing wrong with that. But everything takes resources.

I’d rather have the resources go to the main parts of the fps competition than be spread out to other gameplay elements. And TF2 is known for having finely tuned maps to cater to it’s fps team action. If the devs had spent less effort on that, and instead designed their maps with kitchens and cooking in mind, it’d be a different game, with different gameplay that just isn’t as finely tuned.

It's trendy to hate trending things.

Might just be me, but people seem to enjoy hating on games that are popular with kids, or just "cringe". It wasn't too long ago that Minecraft was similarly treated as a cringy kids game, before it had that stereotype turned around in 2019.

Because within 5 seconds of joining a lobby you've got Spiderman doing the gangnam style dance and Boba Fett dancing to Lil Floppidy Dooda.

At least thats how its in off topic. People here dont like anything popular.
Typically anything mainstream is garbage as it becomes a cash cow rather than for passion. Examples would be modern music as it's talentless and YouTube videos who won't shut up about sponsors, clickbait titles/images or including unnecessary filler content rather than getting straight to the point.

If you want money then put sponsors at the end of the video, just don't ruin the content.
Agreed.

It think it's simply because it's not on steam.

Back then PC games is actually a hassle to install. You have multiple disks, CD-ROMs, different types of configurations (sound card, joystick, Dos4gw, IRQ5, DMA1, ports, etc), pirated content, win95 / dos setup install and more. Although it's fun, every installation comes with a little risk that something won't work, or it's time consuming to figure out the files source, methods to install and stuff. Steam hits the market and slowly but surely, people start to rely onto it.

I think this form of reliance has it's psychological impact, it's like a gang member sticking to his group. They will offer their punch and kicks when another gang surfaced.

Epic games is not steam's competitor. They existed long before steam, they are the distributors of Tyrian, One Must Fall, Jack Jackrabbit and more. They bring in lots of quality action games to make PC gaming fun back in the old days.

Fortnite is a shooter game where you can build things around. You can be creative and build a defending tower. There are many fun elements invented for a gamer to explore. It's a fun chill game for adults and child to play together cross platform. It can also be competitive and e-sports professionals recognized Fortnite. It's a winning fun game which has over 350 million players, and it's free. All the records indicate that it's fine, yet people are not playing it, and some complained that it's bad with no experience in playing it.

Every complain and reason is weak. Oh it's a game with kids. You have kids everywhere! In csgo how many were scammed daily? Oh it's from epic and they have bad practice of making things exclusive. You have it in PlayStation! Every complain does not justify us needing to draw the line because it doesn't.

I'm not trying to defend Epic, I myself have not play Fortnite, I am only interested in exploring this psychological barrier. Overtime, steam games have becoming more and more expensive and developers have started to make a switch. Epic is a very simple downloader without forums, without a community. It's just a distributor like in the old days. Yet it is very difficult to give them a click or even a try.

It is important to study this barrier because next generation of players and developers will not share the same reliance on steam. They will find distributors that offers the best price, they can use epic and any other. If we still stick our heads in steam we will be the ones losing out.

If Fortnite is available on steam, I believe it will be a normal and regular game just like team fortress. People will not just say "oh it's for kids" they will tell you how well they can play their characters before complaining to you about other reasons. Then, those reasons will be more valid.

I don't hate it, the genre doesn't fit my preferences so I get nothing out of talking, reading or even seeing it.

If I don't like something that other people do I just ignore it.

I don't hate it. I find too many online games like it poisonous with undisciplined children who ruin online gaming with homophobic, transphobic, sexist, racist, and worse behavior while ruining games play for the others trying to have fun.

Parents just let their kids play videogames that they shouldn't be playing unsupervised, and don't discipline the children when the act up.

I've only had 2 positive experiences with online games, the original dungeon defenders and the newest gauntlet that sells on steam.

It's pay to reskin...

Not a pay-to-win game at all. Nothing you purchase will affect the gameplay, except for perhaps a skinny character vs a larger one? The larger one could be a bigger target to shoot at? However, if you know how to play that game, it shouldn't be an issue anyways with all the building and running around.
