How to get used to a mechanical keyboard

So today i switched from membrane to mechanical and its hard getting used to. Im using outemu blue switches which are cherry mx blue clones. I type faster, but i struggle in game. I dont know if this keyboard is ultimately going to make me terriblr at games forever or i just havent gotten used to it. Do i simply have to get used to it or something else?

When I moved from a chiclet membrane desktop keyboard to a Topre, I too had the same issues. The keys had much higher actuation distance so it was much harder to type. But then I got used to it and it felt amazing even in CS: GO.

Blues are great for both gaming and typing, better at gaming than my keyboard (I have had some Cherry Blue keyboards as well) because you can micro / macro on them pretty fast.

Get used to what? There is nothing to get used to. It's 100% better then membrane in every way. And you won't have issues with ghosting in games where it only allows but so many simultaneous keys to be pressed at the same time.

Just be patient. Touch-Typing relies on Muscle Memory, and changing to a mechanical keyboard means re-building that muscle memory. It'll take time, let it.

Even changing between keyboards can take a little bit of adjusting. I switched from an MX Blue DasKeyboard Professional to an MX Red Ducky Shine this week, and it took me a couple of house to get used to the much smaller and narrower Ducky, and it's much lighter switches.

Noise, feel, actuation... mechanical doesn't work like membrane.

If you're like me and coming from a chic laptop style low profile keyboard to a mechanical like Topre, you WILL need bit of time to get used to at first.

It's like buying a new mouse that is palm grip when you were using a claw grip before.

Before buying it you should have probably checked in some store how the different mechanical switch types feel to you. Me personally cant stand the Cherry MX Blue clack clackity clack switches and much prefer Cherry MX Red.

What keyboard is it?

MX Cherry Blues are great for typing purposes.

I personally perfer the MX Cherry Browns or Orange for both typing and gaming purposes. You get some tactical feedback, but it's quiet. MX Cherry Red or Black if you hardcore game, without so much typing. Hense, if you really don't like your MX Cherry type, try a few out in the computer store and ask if you can exchange it.

My personal fav gaming keyboard is the Corsair K70 LUX RGB with MX Cherry Browns.

Mechanical keyboards will take a few days to get fully use to, then you will probably never want to return to your old standard keyboard. Your finger muscle memory just needs to adjust a bit to the less pressure required on each key press.

imo Mechanical feels so bulky and takes much more effort to push down. Membranes are just instant and smooth. Maybe my mechanical one is just crap idk

My mom is like you, she hates tactile noise. As sad as it is to say this, my dad seems to be having heart issues right now. If he passes out, I might finally start doing some job, earn money and import her a silenced Topre she wanted for a long time.

I agree, at least for gaming. MX Blue is superb for typing, but it's a nuissance for gaming. Especially action games - I hate the clickiness on WASD when playing an FPS.

That's unavoidable with Blue switches. The clicker mechanism makes them loud, even with O-RIngs.

Yes if you're on a switch that has a catching half-click; then u can't avoid that noise.

I figured the tactile feel would drive me nuts, so went with cherry MX reds and don't regret it, but my pc is used for gaming the overwhelmingly vast majority of the time.

Nah its alright, when i tried out the reds, i just thought they were too boring because they were so linear, so i went with blues. I kinda see why reds have that linear feel but too late now i guess.
