Steam takes 30% cut from game sales?
Is this true? No wonder companies are leaving steam, they need to change this. I love steam and want my games to only be in steam. In 2018 valve made 414 million dollars from CS:GO alone, wow, wonder how much they made this year due to (most popular) Major and Operation Riptide. Sadly Far Cry 6, COD or other games are not in Steam anymore.

Old news indeed, becide they dont need to reduce their cut, due to being the number one storefront on PC. Why would devs want to miss out potentiall buyers?

30% is normal

They like to make their own launchers like Rockstar, Ubisoft, Blizzard and then Epic Games buys them for 1 year or permanently and hands them out for free...

Ok E**** Garbage S***** emplyee, I am really sure that you love Steam and you want all your games on it, right. How could one not believe that?
Don't waste too much time on Steam forums though, or Tim Swine might start thinking that you waste your time while you are at work...

A few major publishers decide to put their games on other platforms.

In exchange, Valve plays host the other 99% of games available on PC.

They can take whatever cut they want, as they completely control the market with no real competitors. Epic take only 12% if I'm not mistaken. Their business model is attracting developers with the lower cut, but it will take time to see if they can endanger Valve's almost monopolistic control.

To Valve's credit, they pretty much invented and led the online platform industry. To the victor goes the spoils.

30% is normal for the software distribution industry. If I recall correctly, Microsoft (Xbox) and Google (Play Store) also take 30%

And your point is? Steam have still biggest market share (if i am not mistaken) compare to those stores. Its unlikley they will attract smaller devs or AA or even few AAA devs if they want to focus on tha (shell out cash).

Allthough i can give them one thing, their visabillity since their atore is not clutter with games and possible media buzz.

Industry Standard got me like.
Steam overs millions more features to a Dev than any other Digitial Games Platform.

Steam's 30% cut gives developers access to the storefront, the update system, Steamworks DRM, community forums and workshop, and specialized support for things like VR and Linux.

If a developer doesn't want access to Steam's customer base or any of the above mentioned features, they're more than welcome to go to other storefronts that offer less for less. Or, just sell directly on their own website and keep all the money from their lower sales figures..

market share and user count doesnt matter when epic guarantees you money to make it exclusive/free to keep
game devs wouldnt make it epic exclusive if selling on steam makes more money than epic's exclusivity offer

That is false, devs do not care about the cut, they just get a big paycheck by Epic to be exclusive to their store for a year.

You can't even be on Epic as a small dev unless you take that deal.

The dev of Darq wanted to put his game on Epic and Steam, Epic said "Let us pay you for exclusivity and you can be on our store", the dev said "That's nice but I'd rather you guys keep your money and let me sell on both stores"... so Epic said no

It's not an actual choice

It's pretty much an old school consignment agreement that can be applied to a brick and mortar store so 30% is pretty reasonable.
