Battlepasses are the pinnacle of disgusting practices, because unlike lootboxes, there's usually no way to earn certain skins on them without paying for the "premium pass."
It's one thing to have affordable skins, purchasable with a form of free in-game currency, lending a slight advantage. It's another thing to charge 80 Canadian dollars for a game, only to give advantages to people who spend more.
Especially on P2P games.
Remember unlocking cosmetics / characters trough progression? Good times.
When I think of microtransaction, I think of "timesaver" type stuff where they sell you experience or in-game currency or something.
And those are total crap because if they're selling that, why wouldn't they make the game ridiculously grindy?
Experience and timer speed ups and energy system is their favorite type to put into a game, because those are thngs they can sell you multiple times.
Maybe I'm not familiar with the wording -- isn't a battle pass the same thing as a season pass?
Either way, no "micro"transactions for me.
No it's quite different.
Season pass is a bunch of DLCs.
The battle pass is something in-game you level up by playing and you unlock rewards (cosmetics, premium currency, tags, ect ect ect) at each lvl.
Of course, you need to pay for the battle pass in order to have access to the rewards. It change every months (and you have to pay for each new battle pass of course, usually around $12~20).
If people want to buy microtransactions, be my guest. It doesn't impact me and I don't get why people care so much about what others buy. I just ignore MTX in the games I play that have them, it's not hard to.
Because it encourage devs to keep that way.
Now because of few whales, everyone have to deal with MTX so yeah, it does have an impact on others at some point.
