If manufacturers wanted to I'm sure that they could easily design a toaster that cooks in 5 seconds. Problem would be safety, cost, and energy efficiency.

The problem would be how do you make a toaster to use less power if you want it to make a toast in less time

Toasters nowadays use 800 W average, maximum 1500 W and it takes a toast to toast at least 3 min

Time is relevant , remember that P=W/t (watts are joules/sec in the metric system, I know that ppl are using calories but joules is what science uses v:)

1 cal= 4184 joules or 4,184 Kj

If they managed a 800 W toaster to make a toast in less than 20 sec that would rly decrease the work needed for a toast to be made leading to a lower power consumption, in theory that is true but in practice I highly doubt that would be possible without an increased power comsuption, a toaster would need more work in order to deliver a toast toasted in less than 20 sec unfortunately....
